Default HELP, Throttle Body sticking...........

The damn thing keeps sticking. I sprayed some throttle body cleaner at wide open throttle (car is off ofcourse), and that helped for a while. But it still sticks. When i'm accelerating and begin to shift, the rpm's do not drop so I have top tap the accelerator again for it to drop then shift. It is a big headach, especially when your stuck in traffic. I'm gonna try the throttle cable. For $10.00, why not. The rubber boot on the cable near the throttle body is torn anyway's so hopefully that will help.
Any other ideas?

I think that my car is doing something similiar. After i got the t-body bored over and re-installed it... the gas pedal just doesn't want to go in sometimes, so i'll just kind of tap it really quick and it'll free itself and work fine...
I may try to work on it later today... let me know if you figure anything out, 'cause it really is annoying

try replacing your cable, too.. it's pretty cheap and will pin-point the problem to the body itself, if it is in fact the body or just the cable..

oh... i read the other post from Mr. S's link... that makes sense, the little stop screw thing was screwed all the way open when i got the t-body back from getting it bored and cleaned, so i bet that's what it is...
thanks man

No problem. In my case it was the throttle plate stopper, but make sure those 2 screws on the plate are snug. Wouldn't want them falling off!

I have actually heard of one of those little screws on the throttle plate falling out and destroying an engine at WOT. So yeah, make sure you use some Loctite.

Adjusting the throttle stop nut cured my sticky throttle too!

I read the link, although mine doesn't seem to close all the way. When you put the car in neutrul, the rpm's drop and it stops around 2000 or so, then I have to tap the pedal for it to completely drop.
Never the less I will take a look the 2 screws!
Thank's!

You have to do it in small small increments... just keep lowering the throttle plate until you're very close to stock idle. At this point the throttle shouldn't be sticking any more. If you're happy with the way it is, use the idle adjustment screw to fine-tune the idle down to stock (750 +/- 50rpm).

We'll I took the throttle body off, and the 2 screws on the plate are good. I just went ahead and sprayed more throttle body cleaner and wiped it down real good. I also went ahead and replaced the throttle cable. Now it's not sticking, but hopefully it does not go away and come back like yesterday after I sprayed some throttle cleaner. We'll see!

The piece of **** is still sticking. Here is what I noticed, yesterday I sprayed some throttle body cleaner and it worked great for about 10 minutes of driving. Today I took the throttle body off, and completely sprayed and wiped it down, and installed a new throttle cable. Like yesterday, it did good for 10 minutes of driving and it started to stick.
What the hell could this be?

is this carb cleaner that you're using a lubricant also? just curious... if you've checked the stop screws and the cable, i'm not sure what it could be... is it the stock t-body?

It's a throttle body cleaner made by 3M. I bought it from O'Rielly. When you say the stop screws, are you talking about the 2 screws on the throttle body?

I'm not sure what two screws you are referring to. On my t-body, there is an allen head screw just below or behind that part on the side of the t-body that the throttle cable feeds through (the round peice that you turn to open and shut the throttle plate). Well that peice has a small flat plate on it that will come in contact with the "stop scew," or it should if it is set correctly. The bolt will have two small nuts on it that are right together that you will have to loosen to adjust the stop screw. And someone above already posted instructions on adjusting it...

Oh, i just noticed that you said it's sticking open as well as sticking shut... i don't think that the stop screw that i'm referring to will help with it sticking open, but you might check it anyway...
i dunno

The two screws I was referring to are the teo on the throttle plate. Some on this thread recommended that I check them.
