Painting floorboard
I need to pain the floorboard in the rust bucket .. er H3 car. I heard there was was kind of paint that a lot of people use to paint the inside or race cars. Can any1 point me to a place I can go and get some in a rattle can?
I was thinking about using some flat gray primer, but I am afraid it will peel up too easy. Thanks in advance.

And if you don't know where your local skate shop is, places like home depot usually carry rolls of "grip tape" - though having one large piece seems preferrable to several strips.
If you're going to buy grip tape go to a skateshop. You can git a longer sheet if they have rolls instead of getting a 32" sheet.

I'm using rustoleum smoke grey i think it is. Its working good so far and looks good. Here are a couple pics of the color. I've only done the trunk area and under where the drivers side seat goes. And sorry for the large pics. I don't know how to resize yet.

If you want the good stuff, get POR-15 from http://www.por-15.com/
I especially like the frame paint, but I have used various of their product, though you won't get it in a rattle can.
Follow directions carefully about not letting in dry on your skin...
I also like Rustoleum, with a brush. It dries pretty smooth.

Well it's by no means a racecar, but when i did mine i went to an automotive parts store and bought some rattle cans of the original Milano Red color touch up paint to cover the portions of the floorboards, rear seat, and trunk areas that i stripped of soundeadening.

Minor sanding, primed, and then painted. I think it came out OK...
Edit- Didn't realize the pic was so big.

my Fotki account where you can find some pix of how it came out. Just go to page 4 & 5 of the album. I think that the color I used was called "dark pewter" or something like that. I know the can says "textured" on it. I started with regular Rustoleum primer, then covered it with the textured paint. Lots of prep work to make sure that it came out nice. It's VERY nice stuff, goes on well and is pretty much "non-slip". I bought the paint at Home Depot.

Rustoleum Smoke Grey. Don't get rattle cans, get the brush-on. Goes on about as fast, and no overspray. Go by a marine supply and get some non-skid deck paint additive to mix in. Works great.
I used a "hammered finish" grey spray paint available form Lowe's, I think it is made by Rustoleum. Looks pretty cool, it is very durable and hides well.
(BTW, "hammered finish" does not mean you must get sloppy drunk before applying it...but I did anyway)

when going for a non-skid surface at the shop we added a couple cupfulls of media from the sandblaster to a can of paint - works pretty good so far.
or just paint it with roll-on truck bedliner from murray's - non slip and won't scratch as easy as paint
(i dont know anyone who's actually done this with a racecar btw, but do know people who have talked about doing it...)

Marine non-skid (made of very tiny poly *****) claims to trap less dirt than using sand or grit in the paint. I know mine wipes out easy.
I mentioned thinking about using bedliner over on the IT.com forum, and several folks wondered about it's flammability. I checked, and some products do ignite at a relatively low temp.

Rustoleum Rattle Can red will pull up where your heels rub it constantly. Was thinking of dynamat or something for that square 3 inches, but I like the idea of skateboard grip tape.

that stuff is made by Hammerite I believe.
Used it to paint my cage (the smooth finish, not hammered). Worked pretty damn well.

Flammable & heavy!
For the driver's footwell, hard to beat a piece of light gage aluminum diamondette bolted to the floor. Durable, light, and bling bling.
