check engine light is on, O2 sensor maybe?? (HELP!)
Hey my check engine light is on and I think it is my o2 sensor. I have had the O2 sensor set off the check engine light before and took I to honda just to spend 130 bucks for them to tell me that was what it was and they could not do anything about it.
I disconnected the negative battery terminal and the car is ok for about 200 miles and then the check engine light comes on again. I definatly think it is the o2 sensor
How can you get your 5th gen prelude computer to bypass the O2 sensor so the ECU does not go into "saftey mode" or something like that without losing power or anything. What do you all think is the best thing that I should do?
BTW I have a boxer VAFC does this contribute to the problem or does it help!
Thanks!!

Stop guessing and check the code: http://www.hondaprelude.to/main_checkengine.html

It all depends on what is causing the CEL. Check the code!!!

i checked the code and I got 8 long flashes and 1 short. So code 81 right? well i can't find any code that is numbered 81. But there was definatly 8 long flashes so i figure it is code 80 which is exhaust gas recirculation. What could this be caused by? please help me!
Thanks
Andrew

My check engine light just came on too. It was on earlier this month but went off in about a week so I thought it may have just been a loose gas cap, but now it is back on. Shark - thanks for the link, hopefully it will help.
i'll tell ya why i always assume its an O2 sensor. Cause my CEL went off likea year ago and i got really scared so i rushed to honda and they charged me 110 dollars just to check my car out and they said that my O2 sensor had caused it. They reset my car and it was fine. The service guy told me that basic bolt on modifications can cause the O2 sensor to do that. Thats why assumed that and it has worked before but it cost me alot of money for 1 hour of work
Any help on the EGR?
