pulley
how do i remove the alternator belt on my h22. i tryed removing the pulley but i could'nt get the nut to turn without the pulley moving. any tips on how to do this. oh i tried http://www.icelord.net/honda/repair/ , but i could'nt find it.
There is a special tool you need to hold the pulley in place, if you don't want to buy it just stick a screwdriver in there to prevent the pulley from rotating, it is unconventional but it gets the job done
just put a screw driver in between the belt and the pully and kind of pry away. no w/pressure on it turn the engine over, eathier by hand or a friend bumping the key
the reason i ask is i've had a rattle under the hood since i bought the car just couldn't find it, until the alt belt started squealing. i checked the area to see what i needed to replace the belt and the top bolt for the alt. is gone. i'm guessing thats the rattle, but the alt. is in there pretty tight. can anyone take a pic of a 4th gen alt. from the top and the side (side where wires plug in). i want to get an idea of what its supposed to look like.

To remove the belt, you don't need to take off the pulley. All you have to do is loosen the two bolts that attach the alternator to the iron accessory assembly & then loosen the belt tension bolt. The belt tension bolt is found just underneath the alternator. After loosening these three bolts, the alternator should be able to be pushed down/inward & the belt will easily come off. You may have to tap slightly on the top of the alternator with a rubber mallet to get it to start moving b/c of the press fit.
Also, if you did ever have to take off the alt. pulley (say you were installing the AEM pulley kit), you either require two long offset wrenches (10mm & 17mm) or will need an airgun. The nut on the alt. pulley has near ~100 ft/lb torque on it. Putting a screwdriver in the pulley to stop it will just succeed in F***ing up the pulley & probably bending the screwdriver or hurting yourself.

sorry man I must have misread your post, I thought you you were asking how to remove the alt pulley
I just went out to my car to check and the adjustment for the alt is right behind the power steering pump, loosen that and the alt should just slide down. I have a 5 gen though, hope that helps some
