Default sohc turbo guys need your help, I'm building my block!!

I am going to pick up this d16z6 with 200k for a nice deal. The motor runs fine, but I will be boosting very very soon.
What does everyone recomend I do to prep this for turbo application. ( am looking for low 13 capabilities)
I am thinking:
new bearings
arp head studs and rod bolts
shot and peened d16 rods
turbo pistons
gapless total seal rings

the head work is already done so no need to list that.

My main question, do i really need new pistons and should i invest in bigger connecting rods

have you thought about investing in LS rods? I hear they work with a little bit of modification. And side by side, those things are thighs compared to the pinkies called D-series rods. But you shot-peened the D rods, so there ya go.

the one thing you need for a d series motor for power is rods. the stock ones are prone to bending or breaking about 200-250 hp. But there has been more power made and less power made on them. Just depends.

I just rully rebuilt my motor
93 d16z6
Je 8:5.1 pistons
Crower 4340 billet rods
Str block guard
Zex cam
Aem cam gear
acl bearings
all honda gaskets and seals
arp head studs
Total seal rings. ( thats waht came with my pistons0
I have heard good and bad things about total seals. You just have to make sure all the gaps are correct and you place them perfect on the pistons.

My motor is going into my crx probably in 2 weeks and we will see if those damn total seals work or not.

tsohc i think his name is built his with supra pistons and b16 rods and his amde sick power . he made like 225 and 200 tq alreayd at like 4800, charge pipes kept blowing off and he shut it down , that was only on 11psi .
head was mildly ported and poslihed.
contact him or boostedhybrid, they both are working on sick sohc set ups

I'd probably go with the LS rods. You'll need to do some notching.

Yeah I would not suggest the total seal rings.
I have heard horrid stories about them and the design just doesn't make sense if you understand how rings seat in the first place.

Your MAIN concern in a D motor is the rods first and foremost then pistons.

like itr206 said I am using the hybrid piston rod package that turbo panda is selling. you can get 4 B16 rods with forged pistons machined and ready to put in the motor W/rings included for $500.

I'm not telling you what to do I'm just giving you the best advice that I can.
I STRONGLY suggest that you get better rods than just shot peened D series rods they are toothpicks.

this rod-piston package turbo panda is selling, what is the overall compression ratio afterwards and will this withstand 12-15 lbs of boost.

Im not a cheepskate by anymeans, but if I get the LS rods (they are dirt cheap) cant they be fitted to the D16 pistons? and if so, will those pistons handle 12-15lbs???

I haev ls rods in my nw engine i put in over the holiday. LS rods require no notching for the d16's.

you need;
1. a bushing for the wrist pin
2. after market pistons (you need a floating wrist pin set up)
3. thin down the thickness of the big end to fit the crank of the d16

all that work puts you just under the price of eagle rods when you figure in the cost of buying the rods too.

is it worth it? i am stil breakign in the engine, but pictures speak a thousand words.

what kind of pistons are those?

are you saying the stock d16 pistons wont fit, or they wont handle the boost?

if your rebuilding the block. why use stock honda rods. if you want power go with something forged. crowler, eagle. something like this. if you looking for more then 15psi , i would put iron sleeves in there too. if you dont have the money now. SAVE. no point in building a half *** motor and having it blow up. then your back at square 1.

thats true. The b16/toyota forged piston package look like a good deal.

With a block that has 200k miles, what should i do with the crank

what is this b16/toyota package.

i personally would not put anything toyota in my car. hello. there are enemy . hehe.

honda cranks are pretty strong, but im not sure with 200k on it. take it in for a test and while your there have it mircopollished and knife edged.

I'm not touching the toyota comment.

It doesn't much matter about the crank having high miles. Honda cranks are forged and I have never even heard of anyone breaking a honda crank.

besides you are going to need new bearings so I would suggest getting a crank kit for $230 and your done.

crank kit= $230
all new ACL bearings
Rods
Mains
Micropolished crank with a garauntee.
Checkout standardcrank.com

you're gonna have to explain to me why you think knife edging a D-series crank is even worth suggesting.

why not. it can only help. reduced mass cant be a bad thing, as long as it does not hurt the stablity of the crank.

Check out my motor build that cost $1500. It's for nitrous, but the only thing you might want to change for turbo is go with lower compression pistons.

never use total seal rings in hondas, they suck. ive used a set. would never seat. pumped more oil out of the exhaust than the exxon valdese

low 13s? With a stock block turbo SOHC you should be able to do that.

Yep, I have had terrible experience with total seal rings in my boosted B18C. Don't use them. Sure they seal well, but they don't seal well for long, and they like eating your cylinder walls over time. That's just my experience anyway, maybe others have had better luck with them.

And if anyone here wants a piston/rod package for your D16 SOHC engine, IM me
