Project Nitrous D16Y8
I decided for my 1000th post I would share my shortblock build project and some pics. I am building a D16Y8 shortblock to withstand a 125 shot of ZEX.
So far my mods are: AEM CAI, DC Sports 4-1, Tanabe Exhaust, Testpipe, AEM Cam Gear, AEM Fuel Rail, AEM Adj. FPR, AEM Fuel Filter, Holley 255lph HP fuel pump, P28 OBDII to I conversion, ACT Street Disc and HD PP.
Suspension consists of: H&R Sport Springs, Tokico Blues, Camber Kit
I picked up a spare Y8 shortblock to work on while I drive my other one. I stripped it down and sent it off to have all the machine work done. Hot tanked, bored/honed block, polished crank, all new ACL bearings and OEM gaskets. I will be doing the assembly myself.
Here are my new SRP Pistons and Eagle Rods. The compression ratio will be approx. 10.5:1
and the D16Y8 block....
.020 overbore
The underdog........
The crankshaft all polished up, still in wrap...
A Zex .043 jet will be used for 100 shot and a .052 for 125 shot. Fuel enrichment will be provided by 450cc DSM's tuned by my Hondata S200. Some of my other new upgrades are going to be a MSD 6A, ARP Head Studs, and a Golden Eagle block guard. The motor should be in and running by the end of this summer and I should have the 125 shot tuned and run at the track by December.
Sorry 56k, I forgot to post a warning in the title.

Thanks for comments. I will post the dyno sheets once I have them. It won't be for a few months though, I need to save some money for MSD and dyno time still.
I'll also take nicer pics when everythings out of it's wrapping and post them, and then once I have it together.
I'm estimating 230-250whp. Sound about right?

On 125 shot? I planned on starting with the 100 shot, tuning, and then going to 125 shot, and tune again. I am keeping my other Y8 shortblock for a spare, in case something goes wrong.

. So your hondata is going to take care of the fuel and not the zex box?</TD></TR></TABLE>
That is the plan. However, I don't think it is possible to remove the vac line from the regulator. I don't think the Zex box can work without it. If that is true, I may use a jetting that gives a very small fuel pressure increase.

Considering I already went 14.2 with a 75 shot on streets. Slicks would have landed a 13.9 or better, this all in a full interior coupe.

Are your SRP pistons special?
I ask this because when I asked a few shops that sell SRP pistons if they would be OK for nitrous, they said that pistons do not handle nitrous well.

I haven't heard that. I got them from ben@importparts and he said they would be fine for a nitrous application. I also spoke with Alan at JE who said they are perfectly suitable for nitrous.
Forgot to mention, the engine build including machine work and the spare block and crank totaled $1495 (much cheaper than a swap for someone on a budget like me, and more fun too.)
The fuel, ignition, and tuning will total $840. Including the fuel pump I already got for $125 it would be $965.
I got the Zex kit for $485, so all together 125 shot on a D16 cost $2945 (Less than a B18C swap and about 100whp more.
)

thanks
thanks
nice
have you ever considered turboing the built block instead of nitrous? i think turbo would be more fun just because it's always available, while you always have to refill nitrous. either way, nice engine

Thanks for compliments everyone, I think turbo setups are nice, but while I am still attending college, building a nitrous setup was cheaper and more practical. When I am done with school in 2 years I plan on starting a turbo project with a different car, and keep this one for my daily driver.
