Default Exhaust installed: Sound and fitment review.

I said I would make another review once I got the system installed on my car so here it is.

Setup: KTeller8's custom exhaust setup. Full 2.5" mandrel bent tubing, with a 2.5"I/E ES style Magnaflow muffler, and 22" Magnaflow resonator.

Price: $325 with hangers and flanges included.

Installation: Muffler shop took about 2hrs to get everything hooked up. I opted not to purchase a test pipe. Instead I used the extra tubing left over from installing the resonator. Muffler lined up on center and everything fits together nicely.

Sound: Great. I was very nervous on how the car would sound, but I knew it would have to be better than my leaky test pipe stock exhaust setup. My main concern was having a coffee can buzz off throttle. It has NONE. Exhaust is quiet (definitely compared to my old setup) and fairly smooth sounding. No metallic raspy sounds. Definitely has a lower pitch to it than I expected which is nice. I contribute most of this to my selection of the largest resonator possible.

Look: Once I paint the muffler black I don't think anyone will know I have an exhaust.

Oh and the installation price.....$50. Yeah you read that right $50. No freaking $250 like some people were talking about. The exhaust is slip fit, the only big welds were for the muffler, and a few more for the exhaust hangers.

Grand total for the entire system and installation: $375

Personal opinions- There is not a better exhaust option for the money period and thats that. $375 for a full mandrel bent exhaust with muffler and resonator that sounds good and fits well is just unbeatable.

Thanks for the review!! $50 for installation is a very good price. It just seems like most people would be charged more than $50 at a shop for 2 hours of labor/welding.. A sound clip and some dyno #s would be sweet..

I would say that it probably isn't too much louder than stock (however it has been a while) just deeper. To me its a big relief sound wise from my leaky buzzy crap. Compared to most exhausts I would definitely put it on the quiet side.

For pictures just do a search for Oval ES style muffler pics. Many people have posted them up before.

It will be hard for me to get a sound clip. I don't have a digital camcorder. Maybe I can back my car up to the front door and record it with my mic. I'll try to figure out something.

I'll be getting the car back on the dyno shortly to do some more tuning and then hopefully head to the track soon after. It does feel like it is pulling nicely.

what is the piping that you used?

I talked with a local guy who makes Intercooler kits for many big name jdm companies, among other things.
If its $20 bucks for a mandrel u-bend, he was saying that most likely the piping would begin to crack over time due to heat and the stress placed on the exhaust.

He makes a intercooler/turbo piping kit that greddy either used to use or still uses because the low quality piping would crack over time.

I am interested to here kteller's reply in regards to the quality of piping they are using. And if they are going to stand behind their product down the line (1-2 years) if the piping has cracks or other failures.

People wonder why smsp and hytech charge alot for their exhaust. I know for sure smsp's cost is not 300-400 dollars and then he is just doubling the cost.
Dave might have to chime in, but I doubt (90%) sure he isnt using the same piping activeaero has.

you get what you pay for.

I dont mean to be a flamer or hater. But I just want to let people know what they are getting into.
I am just bringing up facts that I have come across.

nice review, thanks activeaero. i will be interested to know the difference in the power after you dyno the car. at least butt dyno says you are making more power. glad to hear that the fitment was ok, that was one thing that i would be worried about, as well as the sound factor. however, bob-dc2 does bring up a couple good points. hopefully we will hear kteller and sms give thier input. thanks again.

Eh ok I guess. I have it hooked up pretty wierd right now. I need to get the donut gasket and proper flange to do it correctly.

Ok our SS is, t304 grade,
The Aluminizied steel is 50/50 mix, and has rust preventitive properties: they are coated.
Also both 14 are gauge,

ive been selling for over a year and had none show any extreme wear or poop out on us yet:

ive run mine a lot longer then that and still is in great shape, i will stand by them~
SS will outlast most cars lol:

I have the worst butt dyno in the world. I barely notice anything from my mods. The only exceptions being my flywheel and when I use to go open header back on the stock exhaust manifold.
