About to buy a Type-R
Hello everybody, I've been lurking aroudn for a while and have decided to join now that I'm finally going to purchase a Type-R.
The car in question is a 1997 model with about 50k miles on it. Its going for 19k, but I'd like to negotiate it to a lower price - say 16k or so. Does this sound right to you guys?
Also the ITR has aerospeed coilovers installed. I don't know much but about this brand (I did a search but to no avail), and I was wondering if anybody knew about the quality of these coilovers. Thanks in advance, and I hope to talk to more of you guys soon.

Sounds like a good plan, hope it works out! I'm not familiar with aerospeed, are they full coilovers (damper and spring) or a sleeve-and-spring kit? I'm sure someone here will know about them. Good luck, 97s are the rarest of the rare.
Aerospeed import cheap coilovers. You are must better off replacing them. The coils do break somtimes. YOu really get what you pay for but i would never put those on my own car. Aerospeed is like an apc/ obx company that does more advertising.
Ask to see if they have the stock suspension to give you. Aerospeed is like OBX-R, etc. Basically Ground Control ripoffs. If this person has been ruinning the coilovers on stock shcoks, then plan on replacing the shocks as well. You might be able to sell the aerospeed colivers for a few bucks to help fund a real suspension (or buy good used R stock parts).
Thanks for all the info guys. Yeah, they said that they would include all the stock parts as well, so I guess I can go back to stock suspension. You said that I should probably change my shocks because they might be worn out from use with the cheap coilovers? Any recommendations on aftermarket shocks?

Shocks: KYB AGX, Koni, Tokico Illumina. Any of thsoe will be very good, and they are all adjustable. The non-adjustable shocks are either valved too soft or too stiff IMO.
Well, I just took an R out for a little test drive, and all I can say is...
I'm in love.
Thanks for the info, I think I'll go with the KYB AGX, they sell for a fair price at inlinefour.com. Also now that I would be changing the shocks, I figured that I might as well buy some nice springs as well (I'd get new coilovers, but I'm on a tight budget, I had to take an extra afterhours job just to afford the ITR). After searching around, it seems that most people like the H & R Sport Springs.
Is this a general consenus, or is there a better choice out there? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to be extra careful for my new baby

Be careful running a long shock like the KYB with a short spring like the H&R Sport. The end result will be SHORT suspension travel and potentially weird handling. I have also read a few posts from a while back that KYB's aren't even as stiff as the OEM ITR shocks. I think I remember that only the custom valved Konis are as stiff as the OEM ITR shocks. Can anyone else shed some light on this?
I know it is not a ITR, but my buddy has the KYB AGX on his VETC Del Sol and they are plenty stiff. I am not sure about if they are as stiff as the stock ITR shocks, but they sure seem like it. If I was you, I would invest in a good sleeve style coilover like Skunk2 or something like that. You will always be able to adjust the height anytime summer, winter and fall if the wheather gets bad enough. If you put the stock suspension back on, it should be good enough to hold you over til you save up some $ for a nice coilover. Don't rush on buying something you might regret it down the road and actually want something else later.
