Last Sunday was oil change day for me. I had all my supplies set (oil filter, 4 quarts of Honda Gold 5w-40 motor oil, and my Snap-on rachet set. So I pop the hood and poor some oil flush in the crank-case and start her up. She purred like a kitten for about 5 minutes (as instructed) and then I shut her off.
I then jacked up the car to drain the oil. I put my 16mm socket onto the drain bolt and torque it....wouldn't budge. Hmm...why is thi sucker so tight? I try again, making sure that I am torquing in the right direction (counter-clockwise
)...no movement. Getting frustrated, I jack the car up even more make more room.
I give it all the strength I could muster up...not even a squeek. Damn!! That damn garage tat rebuilt my engine tightened the drain bolt too tight!! The corners on the bolt wer begining to strip so I stopped. I went to the tool shed to look for my can of WD-40....damn fresh out!!
So completely frustrated, I decided to take it to have it changed (I know...LAME!!
) ...but I didn't want to strip the bolt any further.
So I take my car to Autotech (an Autobacs like store). they were having a mini car show in their parking lot (sorry no pics...forgot my digi-cam)..there was a Skyline GT-R, a Sylvia S15, and a Toyota Chaser...all with their hoods popped and showing their pretty sparkling engines.
I walk into the shop and shamefully register for an oil change. Ten minutes later, i get called into the pit area. A guy in his early 20's in full mechanic's gear tells me to pull my car into the garage....So I start her up and parked her int he pit area.
I could see the mechanic through my windshield with like 3 other of his mechanic buddies giggling like school girls. Immediately, I knew that the three turbo charged monsters in the lot in this so-called car show belong to these three clowns.
"Sir, could you please pop the hood"...one of the shouts..so I did.
As the hood raised, I could see his silly grin humbled by what he saw. I heard one of them even say "holy ****...wow!!!" in a very silenced tone. As I walked away, I said " I left the keys in the car...let me know when you're done." They didn't even aknowlege; too busy looking under the hood.
The waiting area was a glass room overlooking the pit area. The three stoodges had yet changed their stances and they were still looking underneath the hood in complete awe...mouth open.
The whole thing took them about 40 minutes...the car parked next to them took only 15 minutes...obviously the turbo was a big distraction.
When they finished my car, all three guys stood there waiting for me to start my car. I deliberately took my time (payback for making me wait and mocking me when I drove in)...started the care and it roared!
One of the guys still stood with his mouth open as I drove away...I found it to be hilarious.....Totally put those guys to shame and it felt awesome.

you could try putting a pipe over the ratchet for more leverage, or
next time just get a bigger hammer?

Every honda I've owned or worked on has had a 17mm drain plug - you wrenchin on the right bolt? Or do some actually have 16mm bolts?
