Default Protect yourselfs, cover your vin #s

My friends have been get'in there cars stolen...all honda all hooked up etc etc....it was told to me that ppl are just copying down the vin # on your car, going to the honda dealership and buying keys there...then just put the key in the car and take your car away nice and clean...way to stop this...kill honda or just cover up your vin #

do u mean DUH keep it covered .. or duh to the 2nd response? cuz honda dealerships like all dealership are operated by humans (meaning weakness and error). ive only heard this method of stealing hondas on s2000s cuz the key has a transponder that sends signals to the ECU.

a honda2000, new accord, and a hooked up 97 si......all stolen or towed away

That registered owner stuff dont mean ****.It's always somenone knows someone at the dealership that can hook em up.

Yep my civic Si was stolen that way. I found it stripped like 3 days later. If i ever found out who did it i will kick their ***!!!

that's why you should invest in "The Club" and the lock for the clutch. It's a hassle to put on and take off every time, but it'll help.

they usually dont check reg. at least lexus doesnt.... my brother owned a lexus which he sold to some girl, she decided to not pay him for the car... my bro gave me the repo job. i went to lexus and ordered the key.... no questions asked. it was ready for me in 2 days.

I've heard about this happening years ago. People would take your VIN#, then go to the dealership and just tell them they lost a key, and they would then just get one made right there

i'm thinking about going to the JY and get another vin# plate and put it over mines. so when the thieves go get the key and come back that **** won't work. haha

its actually illegal to modify vin # in any situation... covering is ok, but removing or swapping is a big no no.

Actually I believe that even covering your VIN# is illegal by law. It has to be visible at all times.

it is against the law to cover your vin or not have one visible from the outside of the car i have a ticket to prove it, though i just have to get a new one and it must be riveted in CA, law anyway i have a custom dash and my old roomate threw
it away before i had the chance to transfer it... expencive mistake

i'm sure you could still get the plate #, go down to the DMV and see which car it's registered to (VIN and all). Maybe I'm wrong on this, but my guess is they have all that on file down there. *shrug*
