OT: Mini Cooper S
this car looks like fun....
The new Rover Mini will come in a variety of levels from mild to wild. The basic car will be sold in three varieties: the basic Mini Minor (1.4L 75 bhp/55kW), the Mini Cooper (1.6L 100 bhp/74kW), and the luxurious Mini Mayfair (1.6L 100 bhp/74kW). There will also be the high-performance Mini Cooper S, with 160 bhp (110kW) from a supercharged and intercooled 1.6-liter 16V engine. Acceleration of 0 to 100km/h (0 to 62 mph) in less than 6 sec. and a top speed well in excess of 220 km/h (140mph) speaks volumes for this car's capabilities--not to mention to its compact size and low center of gravity.
Production of the new Mini, which is being developed under the codename R50 (internally also known as Project Skylark), will start at the refurbished Longbridge plant in the British West Midlands in summer 2000. The official launch is expected for July 2000, but deliveries will not begin before autumn 2000. The high-performance Cooper S will arrive in winter 2000/01 to spring 2001. Sources state that BMW-Rover has definitive plans to export the New Mini in all versions to the USA from 2001/2002 on.
