Need help making a video camera mount for my R......anyone done this??
I made a mount that slides down into where the head-rest goes, then just uses a bolt to attach the camera.
I now want to use the top of a tri-pod to mount the camera, allowing for adjustment. The top of the tripod needs to clamp onto ~11/16" tube. I need to figure out how to mount such a tube (firmly) in my car without a rollcage or a rear strut bar.
If anyone has made a similar mount or has ideas I would appreciate you sharing.
I spent about an hour in Home Depot yesterday and decided the bracket of bolts and tubing I had in my cart would be to heavy to mount in my head-rest mounts.
I am off to Grainger today.
Thanks

You can buy a nice ball mount at any camera shop for pretty cheap. They work better than the crappy mounts that come on most tripods (MUCH Sturdier).

heres the link on how to do it. Hope this helps. Thank teh guys at S&M for this one.
scotts car has the hybrid board version in as seen above
i just made version 2 (forget where i saw it initially)

aluminum box tubing from home depot $3.17
(4) U - bolts @ $0.87 each
(1) ft plastic tubing $0.32 i think...
bastardized old tripod - free
definatly much sturdier than version 1, but is kinda a pain in the *** since the seats are interlocked. need a hand to tighten the driver seat belt by the 'tug tight' method.
i'd say check our site... but, i'm to lazy to add a new page.
D
shawn, grainger down in the strip? do you need a account to buy **** there??? i assume you're racing this weekend both days at the GP. i'll prolly only be there sunday.

Dunno.......I walked in and the line was out the door........so I just left.
Maybe you need an account. That would have sucked if I stood in line for an hour only to be told I can't shop there.
BTW it was the one in the strip.

My only recommendation if you use the single-seat mount would be to put it on the driver's side instead of the passengers if no one will be sitting in the passenger seat. I got the best shake and vibration-free results by puttuing on the drivers seat.
Check out http://www.llamadev.com/movies/ for a movie taken using this method. It is about 7mb and sometimes the connection is a little slow, but it will give you a good idea of how this mount works.

I have the camera mount that goes between the two seats
It is great for stability, just hope you dont have to move a seat up, or adjust a seat. because u really cant
