need help removing axle...
okay i need to get my trans out and i need to get the axle out first. i followed my book and an article on c-speedracing. i got the fork out and the nut (castle nut) for the steering ball joint. i need to get the LCA off but the bolt where the castle nut used to be wont come off!??! I took it off my teg w/no problems, but this car has 120k miles and rust build up, i tried hitting the side of the LCA but nothing is budging....ANY HELP PLZ!?!?
Jack up the suspension.
Stick a ratchet in b/w the nub on the hub and the LCA.
Drop suspension. That'll pop the balljoint out from the LCA.
Use a pry bar and hammer if necessary to stake and pry the axle out of the tranny.

This method works best imo. The ball joint separator tool will just rip up your boots. If it's really stuck you might have to jump on the rotor though. As far as removing the axles from the hub you can either use a ~3-5lb hammer and give a good whack or you can use a 2-3 prong gear puller -- this works best imo.

very good method. in detail and step by step:
-jack up car and put it on stands
-take off castle nut
-jack up lower control arm so there is enough room between the lower control arm and bottom of hub to put in a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar.
-put the head of either tool in the gap between the LCA and hub.
-lower the jack so the suspension can extend fully
-you should hear a pop if done correctly.

i used a fork (separator tool) and it worked just fine for me. didn't hurt the boot or anything. just stick it in there and bang away.
getting my drivers side axle off the intermediate shaft was a total PITA though. you're lucky you're doing the passenger side.
