Falken Azenis - Siping?
I've really been unhappy with the performance of my All-Seasons lately, especially after test driving an Audi TT with a set of some type of Bridgestone compounds on it... I could NOT get that car to slide driving it fast enough to scare me, so I'm springing for a set of the bang-for-the-buck azenis.
I KNOW when I go to get them installed at discount tire they're going to ask me if I want them siped, they always do, any tire I've ever bought there. The question I have is do you want coupound tires to be put through their siping machine, or will it just **** them up?
(Also, 205/50/15 is the size to get for stock rims, correct?)

Oh, in case you guys aren't familiar with what I'm talking about, the discount tire I go to has this fancy machine that essentially slices thousands of little horizontal cuts in your tire. The idea being that more of the tire is in contact with the road at one time I think.
Siping will ruin the performance of the Azenis. Slicing the tread will increase "squirm" when cornering under load, which will cause excessive heat buildup and chunking. Not a good idea.
i almost bought a TT quatro it handled very well i tried damn hard to slide it when i was test driving they are kinda hard to get to slide out,on teh other hand i have azenis on my ITR an i am very happy with them, never heard of siping though but it doesnt sound liek a good idea.
Just curious but, why would cutting many tiny slices be for better handling or performance?
I'd think that the huge blocks that the Azenis has normally that contact the road would be better than cutting the rubber and promoting squirm.
Am I missing something?

I don't think you're missing anything.
The slicks used on racecars generally don't have any tread at all, maximizing contact - it's probably that way for a reason. At least that's my point of view.

Siping is for better wet-weather traction.
So, it's not what you want.
The reason you can't "slide" an Audi TT is because it's really a VW Golf/Bug/Jetta, and the suspension is tuned to understeer like a pig when the women that drive them get into trouble.

lol, thanks for all the advice guys. I just figured I'd ask because I KNOW they will push it on me. All times in the past I've just been like "err... siping makes tires better? Ok." And I'm aware the Azeni's are summer only, that's why I say I only need them to last a few months
As far as the TT handling is concerned, I was VERY impressed during a test drive. They're offering AMAZING lease rates, I looked pretty hard in to getting one for a weekend/play car, but ultimately with me being 20 they wouldn't approve me for the lease they originally 'quoted' me on so to speak.

I would NEVER used A032R's on the street except to get back and forth from the track.
205/50/15 - for stock rim, yes
I wouldn't get them siped.
After they have a few hundred miles on them they are perfect. Super grippy on the street, and pretty amazing on the track. Did I say awesome on the street???

Siping is there more for wet and majorly for traction and stoping power on ICE. lol my dad used to work for Goodyear and installed all those blades that make the little sipe grooves on tires. Check out the Blizzaks or comparable winter tire they are full of sips. Most Summer tires or warm weather tire doesn't have very many or none at all.
