Default To those with a Kirk/Autopower 4 point...

I just received my kirk racing 4 point roll bar this past week, and am going to be putting it in tomorrow morning, and had a quick question about the install position.

Where exactly on the floor behind the front seats do the front 2 points bolt down. Does anyone have a picture of the install, or have measurements from the seat rails as to where the bases are to be bolted.

And once these are in place, where is the main hoop supposed to be positioned in relation to like the dome light in the roof?

Thanks in advance,
JP

If at all possible get it as close to the B Pillar as you can. The reason I suggest this is that the way the floor pan is formed you need to be fairly close to the point where it kicks up. From what I know about it, the point about 6" rearward of the seat track is quite strong. Might I suggest as well that you "dry fit" the unit with the seat positioned as far back as you plan to have it. Also remember that most 4-point bars are designed for a street car that has not been gutted. If you are in real doubt-call Kirk Racing and talk to Mark (he is the fabricator).

I do know that my head is forward of the main hoop in my CRX and the hoop is just slightly forward of the centerline of the B-pillar. We mounted it on the floor pan 1: forward of the kickup. Hope this helps a little

I've got a 94 GSR with a Kirk 4 point. What I did was position the main bar at the furthest point back that I could still put the back seats up and down. It takes a fairly hard push to get them past the harness bar. Everything seemed to line up well at that position. Note that due to the diagonal bar the passenger seat does not go back as far as the driver's seat.

We installed mine in line with the pillars, I wanted to use the strongest part of the car to balance the bar. Honda has the pillars there for some reason, so I just installed it inline with that.

I have no back seats in, so they really are not going to be a problem for the install.

So I should just basically try to get the main hoop as close to inline with the b-pillar as possible. And I'll try to get the mounting plates as close to the kickup in the floor for the rear seats as possible I guess too, but its kinda hard, because the floor seems to slope right where it kicks up to where the rear seats used to mount.

If anyone has any pictures of their install that would be great if they could put them up.

And did you guys paint the backing plates that go underneath the car to prevent rusting when exposed to the elements, or did you just leave them be?

Thanks again,
JP

One trick I used when installing my kirk is to push it as far back as it will go and drill from the bottom.

a friend of mine coated the exposed mouting plates once installed with under car coating. I believe duplicolor sells this.

I mounted the ones on my Civic as far back as they'd go. They line up perfectly with the b-pillar.

I have a bunch of so-so pictures of the Autopower install in the ITR, but none of them really show the exact location of where the main hoop attaches to the floor. If you want to see them anyway, I'll e-mail them to you if they'll help.

Here's a shot of where the Kirk main hoop mounting poing in the CRX. The Kirk bar has a little more extreme bends along the b-pillars which forces the plates toward the middle of the car about 2" more than the Autopower would. However, we were able to get it all the way back agains the floor to keep the main hoop as far back as it would go. BTW, don't mount yours like this...it's not finished in this pic:
