when to rebuild
Im planning on doing a lot of mods to my gs-r but in the meantime i was wondering when would be the right time to rebuild an engine. Right now I have about 70K on my gsr. I plan on going with spoon cams soon too but if i put them on my car say at 80K and when I have to rebuild at like 170 or whatever what would I have to have rebuild on the engine?
What exactly are you saying?
I think your going to have to reiterate so that we understand what your looking for here. With 70k on the car right now I don't think you have to worry about a rebuild unless you beat the living hell out of the car. You should be fine with the cams.....depending on the rest of your setup (list that, it will help). An engine rebuild will run you a couple g's i know that much. I don't understand why your so worried about it right now though. Just don't put the cams on the car and bring that thing up to redline everytime you drive. I'd suggest some headwork, new retainers, valves.
Just list your setup so we can all go from there.

just got the car about a month ago. so far everything is stock except for the bumper conversion wheels rotors and brakes. I have iridum plugs on it and plan on going all motor. Comptech headers, high flow cat exhaust, pretty much all comptech but Im really interested in the spoon cams. I was just worried as if I should wait to do the cams when the engine was rebuilt.
i bought my car with 80K in great mechanical shape....it now has 135K and is in need of a rebuild due to oil burning in vtec.....I do NOT drive like a maniac but I do frequently keep it revved to around 5-6K and she sees redline about once a week....on average...I wouldn't put in cams before the rebuild since you're only gonna beat it up more and you will most likely need a rebuild before 170K, just my opinion...

Yep! Doesnt matter if the car has 150K miles on it. Just run a compression test, and if all is well, then mod away!

i have 150k on my 95 gsr and and pulls 225 across the compression test. still runs strong especially with a stock clutch that i have over 7-8 years now. go ahead and do a compression test to see how your #'s come out. #'s low, go ahead and rebuild but if its in the 200's still good.
