I have a 96 gsr and it grinds during start up. I don't know if its the starter or the flywheel. It runs fine and it starts up, but it just grinds. Can anyone help me with this little problem.

 

what kind of grind? how long does it last? little more description would be better

 

It could be your starter not fully engaging. Or it could be the wear of the starter gears on the flywheel gears.

 

Could be the flywheel griding against the starter.

Is it getting worse as time goes on?

 

The problem has been going on for about a month now. It dosen't get worse as time go by. It still sounds the same. It does it when I crank it. So is it the flywheel or the starter? Which part do I need to replace? These parts are all original except for an act clutch, which was put on about a year ago.

 

Starter is probably just loose! check the two bolts that hold it down, mine was doing that till i noticed one of the bolts worked its self out! or its not disengaging right.
