ITR tranny synchro question
I get a grind going from 2->3 shifting quickly and over 9000k. As of today, I started getting a gind shifting regularly, so the tranny is coming out tomorrow and the synchro and possibly the gear set is getting replaced. Is there anything else that I should replace while the tranny is cracked open? Should I do the other two synchros and/or any bearings?

the gear set is fine. they don't move and the syncro metal wont damage them.
syncros is all you really need to replace, you can do just the affected ones or all of them or some, whatever you want (and depending on your budget). Bearings, etc I wouldn't replace unless they are bad. You could replace the seals and such if you want though.

What milage and what year is your car? I just had mine replaced at Acura Woodbine. It was covered under warranty. If you want, you can give me a call on my cell and we'll talk. I'll IM you.

Actually, the gear has its own synchronizer teeth that wear down as well.

So depending on how worn the gear synchronizer teeth are, they might have to be replaced as well? I don't want to have to drop the tranny again six months down the road to fix something that I could have fixed now........
If you guys know of any problem parts besides the synchros, let me know so that I can change them.
One more thing, since I have the tranny open, should I swap to a GSR fifth gear? I have the Cusco 5.0 FD in the tranny, and I am about 5500 RPM cruising at 140 km/hr. VTEC is just a stomp away

Hi Wayne
I am on my 4th tranny(2 GSR, 2 ITR) and I can tell you that it is more worth it to buy the whole tranny. In the GTA you can normally buy a brand new tranny for about $1850 from Acura. The sysnchro set is normally only sold as one kit so you will end up buying all of them. By the time you factor in labour and parts it would be the same as buying a whole new tranny.
Don't change to a GSR 5th gear. The difference in acceleration will be too big if you expect to track the car. If you want to stay street driven then I guess you will save some gas but if you are not in VTEC(turn it up) you will not notice a big gas use difference.

Anselm, I have a hookup so I can get the synchros without the entire set. I do not want to buy a new tranny and then have to move my FD over to it. Labour is costing me about $350, and parts $180, so it is still cheaper than buying a new one
