Tips on buying a 2nd Gen Integra
I'm looking at buying a 2nd gen integra (love the styling).. 92-93 because I want at least 140hp. I'll be using this car for fun, might take it to the track, and for trips (my Prelude has no room in the back seat).
I value sportiness so I was looking at the RS (cuz its light) or the GS-R.
Do the B17s burn oil like the H22a? Which is more reliable the B18 or B17?
The the lack of torque on the B17, make it hard to drive in the city?
Is there anything to look at when buying this Integra other than the usual for Hondas:
ie Timing belt, etc...
Thanks in advance.

The H22A natually burns oil, even when they are BRAND NEW.
Thats why I ask about the B17. Anything else that goes wrong with em?
In Ontario, its not a problem finding a GS-R
Here, have your pick:

want some advice, don't bother with an integra for racing...you will most likely lose off the line to anything that's rear wheel drive. want to take your car to the track, then for sure an integra is a waste of time and money, unless, of course, you buy it for economic purposes, which is the reason why those kinds of cars are made, THEY ARE NOT MADE TO GO FAST, THEY ARE FOR ECONOMIC PURPOSES, NOT PERFORMANCE. If you want cheap, reliable, decent gas mileage, buy a 80's 5.0, they run 15's stock, unlike Hondas and integras that run 17s stock, LOL.

When I say track I meant Solo II or Solo I. For the drag strip, my SR-V will run high 14s, but 1/4 mile is borring IMO. I'm not spending more than $8000cdn.

Just for the record H22's naturally burn oil. For Preludes still under warantee (5th gens) Honda will not replace the engine unless you are burning more than 1.5L every 1000km. They consider upto this amount is 'normal'.
But I've driven all 4cyl Hondas and nothing feels like the H22a.

i was told that vtec motors have a slight blow bye of oil that is normal when engaging in vtec alot ? vtec runs of oil pressure right ? i had a had b16 that burn a slight bit of oil but the motors compression and leak down was strong , my b18c has a slight burn also but it could be cause im using 5-30 oil

Correct me if im wrong but the b17 was only in 93?? Either way.. hard to find one of those! Just look for something that an old lady was driving! Don't buy something that has already been modified. All honda motors go forever.. if needed just do a basic rebuild and the motor is as good as new!

No they don't. I have two friends with H22's and they don't burn a drop. They both are using Mobil1 synthetic, which is known to burn easier than most oil.
Obviously, Honda had to set a point somewhere otherwise they would be replacing everyones engine.

92 and 93
FInd a GS-R. The B17 is a superb motor. No swap necessary. Accepts almost any ITR/CTR motor upgrades. I'd probably do cams right off the bat, but all in all any G2 owner would kill to have a '92-'93 GS-R.
Nothing will feel like a H22A because that's just about the torque-iest motor Honda offers (aside from the B20 CRV block). If you are going to compare the any stock B-series motor to the H22, you may be disappointed.
Keep us posted.

WTF!!! How you gonna come to a Honda/Acura site and hate!!?!?!?! 17's? Any bone stock B-series honda motor is perfectly capable of high 15's. Put a stock B-series in a CRX and you get a low 14 sec. machine. Go back to your hole n00b.

im on my 2nd g2 teg. what you need to look for when buying one is:
- engine mounts
- timing belt
- mastercylinder
- axles
- if its a coupe check ine hatch area and look for any signs of water, if there is you are gonna need some taillight gaskets.
