Problems w/ Mugen exhaust
Okay, well, first of all, it's not a real Mugen exhaust; it's a copy. But it looks really nice and makes a really deep but quiet noise so that's great. But I am having a small problem with it; the pipe that loops around the muffler is burning my bumper. I took it for a test drive right after I installed it and loved everything, but then I pull into my garage and notice a burning smell. I look over at my muffler and some of the bumper has melted to the loop back pipe. Anyone know how to prevent the burning? And no, there is no way for me to mount the muffler higher as the hangers on the muffler are already very short. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Go to a muffler shop. Ask them to extend the hangers or put a new one for you. It should be a 10 min job.
By the way, where did you get the muffler? May be interested?

Well I don't want to extend the hangers because the loop back pipe is supposed to be hidden I'm pretty sure (I'm not positive, but I think it's supposed to tuck right above the bottom of the bumper). I'll probably take it to a muffler shop to have them see what they can do about it though. I got it off eBay...$165 + $20 shipping. It's not just the muffler, it's from the axle back. I'm not sure if you can still find it for that price; the guy raised the price on them a little. It's made by some company called Mozart, but I don't really care since it is exactly what I am looking for in terms of sound.
Thanks Bro. Mozart was what I was looking for back then. But no local shop sells it, and I didn't know anyone who got one, so didn't know if it was good. I assume was new right? I'll check out ebay and see.
Hey did u get it from TurboMufflers.com? The guy with an email something like CrzyCarLover@oal.com ???? If so, you must have gotten a great deal since I ordered one for $175 plus $20 s/h. Still haven't gotten it yet.
About your muffler problem, you can extend the muffler out a little bit away from the bumper (and not involving the muffler shop) is to change the rubber hanger.

hmmm... hope I don't have the same problem with the real deal mugen exh, I've been sittin' on the axle back section for a lil' while now, talk to mugen today and the just received the mid pipe from Japan, sending it out tomorrow with H&R springs, can't wait, then I gotta measure up the spoon header to see what size cat I need made - since no-one knows

The problem with my muffler isn't that I need it extended; I need to figure out a way for the loop back pipe on the muffler not to touch the bumper. If anything, I'd like for the muffler to be shortend about 2 inches, but since that's not possible, I guess the next best thing is to have the pipe tuck up behind the bumper. I got my exhaust from the same guy, crzycarlvr@aol.com. He told me he wasn't going to ship it out until this Tuesday, but apparently he sent it earlier cuz I got it yesterday
I doubt the real Mugen exhaust will have the same problem; the fitment on it should be better; for $1000, I hope it would be

yea i have the Mugen Twin Loop on mine, It fits perfect, and sounds great. The only things i don't like about it, is it is a little TOO quiet, and the tailpipe looks just about stock, I kinda wish it was a little wider. But ohwell, it's all good.
How close is the loop pipe to your bumper? And can you see any of the pipe if you look at your exhaust from a normal view? (Does the bumper hide all of the piping) Just curious because I'm going to have a muffler shopp adjust it tomorrow and would like to know how it is supposed to be.
Try trimming the bumper a little or reduce the hanger to hang pull the muffler upwards a little for more clearance. UPS scheduled for delivery of that very same muffler next Tuesday July 12th. I'll let you know what's up. I have an after market 2.5" catback so hopefully the fitment will be a little better.
At any decent speed shop you should be able to find fiberglass insulating wrap for headers. This also works pretty well for insulating exhaust pipes. The only worry is that it will likely trap water, and could possibly lead to mildew if the car is sitting outdoors, or worse, surface corrosion. Yes, even stainless can discolor and start to corrode under the right conditions.
no u have to look under the car to see the loop around. and everything is well spaced from the bumper with plenty of clearance.
hey BlackLS,
I got my twin loop yesterday..installed it. Didn't have to cut it or anything. However, Ihave to clip off my bumper like 1/2" at the edge for it not to rub. Everything looks fine so far. It is DEFINATELY louder than my stock ITR. I was hoping for it to be quiet

my exhaust was also hitting my rear bumper, so i have a little plastic residue on my tanabe. all i did was that i took a dremel to my bumper and reshaped the exhaust cutout to fit the tip hope that helps
