The other day my heat shield on the converter started rattling. I got under the car last night and had my girlfriend rev up the motor to see which part was rattling. turns out its the top section of the heat shield. I tried gettin it off last night with some penetration spray on the rusted *** bolts but they are stuck tight. I was wondering do you really have to have the heat shield on there? If u do i was thinkn about just cuttin the damn bolts off cause i cant even get a good grip on them with a socket wrench, and replacing them with new ones.

 

no you don't, I've run a whole bunch of cars without them. I don't have a single heat shield on my car except the muffler. No problems.

 

Just don't park on tall grass and you'll be fine

 

Yeah i had heard that going through tall grass without the shield can cause a fire, but i rarely even take my teg off the pavement. It sits on jack stands more than off the pavement thanks guys
