Default VTEC Engagement Problem

Hi Guys,

The VTEC on my R has been sporadically engaging and disengaging after 6000 RPM on the tach. It is always in the low gears. Usually, it engages at about 7000 and drops off at 7500, and that is all. Sometimes it engages at 6000, drops at 7000, and reengages at 7500. I have a stock R with 104K on it, and the car is due for a timing belt and tune up, which I will be doing this weekend to hopefully solve the problem. Should I adjust the valves as well? Any help would be appreciated.
