Default For those very skilled honda fanatics... question

Ok this I have not been able to solve whatsoever although I've asked it on numerous boards:

I am running a 1st gen B16A in a teg with 5 speed tranny and automatic PW0 computer. I got an MSD cap and coil, new plugs (gapped properly), new wires, new rotor. Now, when I am just lightly accelerating or holding a constant speed around 100km/h (60 mph) (note: the car is reving about 3000-3500 rpms) I get this bog between 1800-3000-3500 rpms. I sounds like water boiling but coming out of the exhaust. I don't know if I can describe it any better. It goes (don't laugh) booo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-booo. Sometimes the car does that slightly at idle too. If I press on the gas harder it doesn't happen. Anybody had this kind of a problem???

Yeah, switch to a manual ECU.

Just for some added info. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Does it make that noise when you let off the throttle?

That's what I was talking about, but I kinda wanted to see his feedback before I posted anything. My exhaust does that **** all the time. It's loud as hell and my friends call it the "ghetto mIsfiring system" (refrence to Initial D) lol

Check your ignition timing.

bo bo bo is just ur car running rich

the (bahnnnn bahn bahn bahnn) sound is probably cause cylinder head is dirty. I had this problem before and I don't even know if that's how i fixed but this is what I learned:

take out the spark wires and plugs, then get a long and thin metal made stick with a sharp end and clear out the rings u see from top of the head (but more than half way inside the cylinder wall). I'm sure you'll see nasty oil around those rings. just remember though, do clockwise around the walls and make sure you don't scratch em. once all the oil is out or most of it just get silicon grease and put lil bit on the plugs see what happens. Maybe this can be off but it helped my problem.

oh yeah btw not askin to take off the head to do that

forgot to mention: reason to use a metal sharp piece is so if you tend to drop the stick inside the cylinder, u can still use a magnet stick to take it off without taking the whole motor apart. I do this once every 3 weeks and I enjoy it

instead of beating around the bush going from site to site. why not just go to the source of vast information available from michael delaney and team-integra.net. just a thought.

**** i never thought i'd get so many replies...thx guys. Ok to address a few things:

the fartcan stuff...that's not it. its coming from the engine not the muffler. yes the engine does fart especially when I shift at high rpm. The cleaning out the cylinder head i'm gonna try that thx Typico512 ... about running rich and buring fuel ... I get 360km on a gas tank down from 500 I used to get with the b18... so that might be it but as i posted b4, the car seems like it doesn't have ENOUGH fuel pressure. According to the helms it should have btween 48-52 psi mine has only 42 with the regulator disconnected... but i will go visit michael delaney thnx 4 that too.

what about the icm? could that be a problem???

...is this a serious reply? Use a metal stick to scrape the cylinder walls? I must have missed the build-up to the punch line...

Are you utilizing 2 oxygen sensors or just one?

A lot of hesitation/low RPM stumbling problems on pre-OBD cars (PW0, PR3 ecu) has to do with this. Check here for more info:

When I was running my auto OBD2 PR4 ecm, and a wideband, I found that the car was idling disgustingly lean (18:1) at idle, and then very rich in the midrange, until it tapered to 14.7:1 at the top end. I changed to a manual, OBD1 PR4 and it works very well now.

ok....I am running 2 o2 sensors...i'm gonna try what they say on the hondata web site. I also got an a/f gauge so ill see if i'm lean or rich when this happens i'm gonna see if converitng my computer will help

question i read on a web site that to convert the pwo computer from auto to manual all you gotta do is resolder jumper 37 to spot 36 or something like that...does that sound right? is that all u have to do?
