Default engine rebuild, how long before synthetic + 1 other Q

Hi guys, your help would be deeply appreciated on this....

Just put 4000 kms on the clok after new pistons, bore, hone e.t.c. how long should I wait before putting synthetic oil in.????? By the way, I'm still 'waiting for the oil rings to bed in. When it hits high VTEC, 8000+ rpm there is white smoke!!!

Hmm, I dont know if this applies, but I started using synthetic on my first oil change when the car was new. 75,000 miles later and the engine is strong.

My mechanic told me to change the oil after 1000miles and then it was ok to go with synth oil. I just stuck to semi-synth oil in the end though.
