Clutch Problems
It sounds like your master or slave cylinder just went out.
Check around the clutch pedal on the inside of the car, for leaking fluid. Check around the slave cylinder (on the tranny) for leaking fluid. Check the amount of fluid in the reservoir.

I'm sure I sound retarded, but where is the reservoir for the tranny fluid?-that may be my problem since I have alway thought that motor oil ran through the manual tranmission. I have never been able to find a reservoir/dipstick for the transmission. thanks for you help
He means the reservoir for clutch hydraulic fluid. Outboard from the brake master cylinder, similar but smaller. You might just need to bleed the air out of the clutch line. But if there's any leaks, or if bleeding doesn't fix your problem, then you need a clutch master or slave, or both.
