smoking after rebuild......any suggestions?
h22a rebuilt w/total seals and rings.......after about 150 miles started to smoke......pulled plugs and found oil residue on tips of a couple plugs....compression read 180 on all 4 cylinders.....there is blowby when I take off the oil cap........my mechanic did the work.....he asked a tech who has worked on some of the engines and said not to hone it or there will be problems in the future.....therefore my engine was not honed........next I called total seal tech line........this is what I was told by one of the techs who had some knowledge about the lining of the cylinder walls......said that since it was not honed it will take longer for the rings to seat..........now I ask you guys what to do........1. run it for a couple thousand miles and wait for the rings to seat or 2. tear apart the engine and hone the walls

Your block is not sleeved, correct? Then the cylinder bores are FRM, not iron. I don't know if total-seal rings will work with FRM. You can call them and ask. They may not be aware that the bores are not iron. I used honda rings in my rebuilds, no problems. Also, FRM can be honed, but the process is different than with iron sleeves. Check the Helm...
since the rings were purchased specifically for my engine from total they should already know that the walls are not cast iron but frm......makes sense to me

with 250 miles there is still alot of blow-by....rings have yet to seat obivously....question though......in my helms manual it says to hone the walls....but that would be if you were to use honda oem rings for the rebuild......now that I used total seal rings....and since the walls were not honed......will they eventually seat......so far I have noticed less smoke from the exhaust the more I drive it
