Daily Driving
How many people wear the racing harness's for everyday dailydriving? I imagine they are safer than a seat belt, but are they more comforatable?? Any opinions and/or suggestions are welcome!
I don't have racing harnesses but if I did, I would wear it just like a seatbelt. Whether you have seatbelts or 5 point harnesses, you should buckle up everytime. If you do have a harness, please make sure you have a roll bar to compliment it.

Also check with local laws governing seat belt use to see if they are legal. In most cases, even though the harnesses are legal for track use doesn't necessarily mean they are approved for use on public roads.

I agree
I also heard that harnesses should only be used in conjunction with a roll bar, but i'm not too sure. If you're running harnesses, I would say make sure they're really for safety rather than "looks", but that's just me

ya i heard they had to be hooked up to ur roll bar, or else something nasty happens but i forget what that was. Do u really wanna take the risk. I say if ur packing 500 hp then go get a roll bar and the seatbelts

Harness' hold you in place and in the chance of a rollover with out the a roll bar you will be crushed due to the fact that you couldn't move side ways or at all......please only wear 4pt or 5pt harness with a proper roll bar/cage......it will save your life!!!

that's what it was! Rodrez always says that when he sees 4/5 pt harnesses in cars w/out roll bars...just a thought for everyone sporting harness...be safe than sorry

I wore my Schroth 4 pt last year.
it was fun at first.
then I had a hard timebacking up and looking toward the rear of the car.
then I cant change the stereo at all.
then I can barely reach the window.
then I realized I was cornering at speeds totally unsafe for streets/highways (on A032R) only because I was so anchored in... that I was feeling indestructible.
I thought about it and took it out and used the stock seatbelt.
much better.

think about this. A friend crashed into the back end of a tractor trailer. The bumper on the trailer would of decapitated him if he didn't duck. In a four point harness he would be dead. A roll bar would not of saved his life either, a full cage maybe.

If you are on the street, regular seat belts are the best. At the track, harnesses are the best. A rollbar or a cage is always a good safety item, but just because you have them doesn't mean you should drive around with harnesses on.
From how I understand it, if you wear a harness, you should have a rollbar/cage. If you have a rollbar/cage, you should wear a helmet. If you wear a helmet in a car on public roads you're gonna get laughed at. And you'll need a comb everwhere you go. Unless you're bald, then more power to you. I'm rambling, I'll stop now.

I agree and disagree with this comment. I agree in the part where you say that for the street a regular seatbelt is best but if you do have a roll cage, I think a harness would be better. If you get in an accident you would probably slide around and crack your head open on the roll cage with just a regular seatbelt.

I know a guy whos life was saved becuz of his harness. he rolled his car down a hill. Normal belt would have thrown him around. The harness kept him and place and hes fine. and the hill...is a big one..
I think, if you have a rollbar, normal seatbelts should be worn and a harness for the track. If you have a full rollcage, do what you want.
People are killed by airbags while others are saved by them.
Its like murphy's law....no matter how much safety you have, there will still be a way in which it can also hurt you at the same time.
