Dx vs Si tranny..who has had em both??
this question is for the heads that have had a dx ans an SI tranny with the same motor...how big of a gearing difference is this?..i mean i am bossting on a DX tranny and i want to get an SI but there damn rare and with rareness comes in coin but im low budget as it is im bossting for less then a 100 bucks thanks to my local junkyard and i dont want to spend alot of coin on an SI if its not going to make a a difference...so im asking how many heads think i should stick with the dx how man say i should go with the SI?..i also have a 4spedd that im thinking to slap on also just to try it out once a tranny goes but thats after i do or do not get the SI so all u heads that have had them both help me out with ur 2-3 cents....

Learn how to type. If you're going to boost, Keep the dx, Unless you have a turbo that spools up fast, Then go for the si. The 4 speed I think everyone will agree is crap.
If you're making power, count on the DX input shaft bearing to go out. The DX has smaller bearings than the Si. My buddy was runnning around 9psi with a ZC and went through 3 DX trannys. Input shaft bearing everytime. The Si and ZC are beefier trannys, and a DX gear cluster will drop into an Si case, just be prepared to order shims and check clearances.

i agree with mark on this one, the dx trans (along with the motor) has smaller/weaker bearings, and is more likely to go out faster, just like he said above at 9psi of boost the input shaft bearing will basically decinigrate. go with the SI tranny, you will have better luck with that one. As for the four speed, stay as far away from that as possible

go with the si tranny reguardless. it will do better n/a or with boost. most everyone that goes faster with longer gears can't drive. the si is all around a better tranny.
ya i figured the SI was going to come out on top i want to put the 4spd just to mess around not seriously to bang gears everywhere adn htrd where u at man im in socal and i have a dx but its not worth while if your far from socal that tranny is a cherry 5spd dx that i pulled out when i went h22 for the firstime the tranny has less then 50k on it cuz i got the car from the ogir. owner whom had only put 50k on the car...

i had a good condition dx tanny mated to my dual cam zc for about 10 months, and it worked fine, and was great for highway mileage. with a full interior minus the passengers seat(easy to remove), big wheels, a crappy intake, and a dx header(worst for the dual cam zc) i still ran a 16.3. it felt a LOT faster than the standard motor with the 4 speed.
i got a low mileage si tranny a while back for 100 bucks, it was a deal and a half. i finally got around to putting it in a couple weeks back, and let me tell you, its way better. i now have a header, full custom 2.5 inch exhaust, a good intake, and small wheels, and this sucker flys. i love driving my car now, its a total blast. we'll see how i do at the track soon. the si tranny is always better. people who make better time with the dx tranny either need better tires for traction of just cant drive. the si is always better for NA. BTW, the dx and si trannies have the same gear ratios, its just the final drive that is different. driving them feels the same, the si just gets out of the hole faster.

Virginia.... I found a junk yard Si that got hit hard on the passenger side. So hard in fact, It fucked up the drivers side motor mount. I'm a little reluctant to buy the tranny ($175).

Exactly what i thought..use the Si case and FD and use the 4 speed gears. I wonder how good it would work for drag racing. And I agree with everyone else about the Si trans. The reason the a6 and si trans is the best thing honda did for the SOHC d series. What other car can you run 15 second et with only 108hp with only i/h/e. Only bad thing is the un equal CV's

i have owned the DX ans SI trannies for a while on my same setup.....
the Si tranny its about .3-.4 seconds faster than the DX.... for example i ran 15.4 with DX and with Si i can run 15.2-15.1.....
if u do a lot of Highway driving then get the DX.,....
if not i say defenetely go with the SI....

im probably either going to swap in the final drive into the 4spd or the 5spd dx i have, but dose anyone know if it willl wokr becasue the SI tranny i have is an 88 which is an oddball...
