I have had a problem with my car draining the battery during long drives. I initially thought it was the alternator, but i took it out and had it tested and it was good. What happens to the car when i drive is, the gauge cluster acts funny (needles jump around), the interior lights all dim, furthermore my battery dies. This had only happen after one hour of freeway driving. I have a 1990 CRX Si with a B16 in it. The people at kragen, autozone and pepboys are saying i have a short somewhere in my car. So the question is, how do I find a short? I also have an MSD ignition box with external coil (only other electronics i have added to the car). I have had this setup for more than a year, and i have only been getting problems recently. Any help of suggestions would help. Also, if anyone knows the part numbers for synchros (JDM CABLE S1 tranny) and LS fifth gear (main and counter shaft i believe) to use with the same tranny, i would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

well i just had a very similar problem with that in my D16a6 ef si. but my problems were not completely like that. I swith out the altenator like 3 times and it still kept drainig. So i gave up and drop it off at the local HONDA. They found out that it was my rear defroster relay that was draing my car so fast. So it cost me $172 for them to fix it and for the diagnosis.
....about 1 year ago my accord did the exact same thing as you discribed. It tunrd out to be that my altenator belt was not tensioned correctly to spec so HONDA charged me $35 to re-adjust it. No problems ever since. My accord is auto and i also have MSD 6al ingition.\

Thanks for the info. . .I will probably have a honda technician look at my car this following weekend. Thanks again
Does this happen to you during the day or during the night? That could help you pin point the problem. Rule out things use while driving. During night you need your lights so that could be a problem wether it be headlights, blinkers, tailights and so on. Do you use your AC? Radio? Wipers?....Get my drift. Try and pull fuses of things that are not essential to you. If you have a DMM (digital multi-meter), that might be albe to speed things up. Good luck.

This had actually only happened to me at night time, the thing in use besides the headlights, was the radio. However, i disconnected the radio when i was driving the same night (on a spare battery) and the battery drained again, according to what you are saying, it could be the headlights. . .i have to check the wiring on the lights, thanks
