Give me your tips on weight reduction.....
We'll I weighed my car in at 2775lbs, and need some ideas on loseing some weight. It's a '99 Si. Give some cost saving ideas, unlike going out and buying a carbon fiber hood. Oh and yes I still want to keep my AC
!
!
get a fiberglass shell hood there around 100-150$
loose the spair tire loose the back seats if your really into it. rotas make a decent weight loss but dont go ***** out and start scraping tar off with your teeth lol

Depends on how hardcore you wanna get.
A small list:
A/C---complete system (I know your not interested in losing this)
Power steering pump, lines, everything.
Front and rear bumper supports
Front and rear sway bars
Everything in trunk
Gas tank from DX or HX
Rear seat belts
Sound deadening stuck to floor
Firewall mat
Airbag steering wheel and sensor/control box
Cruise control
Etc... you get the point

I was thinking of taking out the rear bumper support. I never thought of switching gas tanks though. Hopw much of a difference will that make?

along with all of the other "stripping,"
id take the brace that goes along the floor just in front of the rear seats, i bet that thing is 40lbs..its a monster

this probably for all out racing....well the cheapest ideas would be everything in your trunk...your rear seats....passenger seat....rear bumper support...remove all your door panels.....and maybe you can pick up a sparco speed seat....it's like around $200 well for just the seat...then you need the side rails which are like $50 and the harness is like $60-$70...4pt or 3pt don't remember......fiberglass seat...can't beat it....but forget that idea...that's like the carbon fiber hood
Two words; sawzall and plasma cutter
. Really though, any door panels, carpet, sound deadening, and extra seats are all prime candidates for removal.

sound deadning 26lbs from a si
lightweight flywheel...save 11lbs from rotating mass.
lightweight rims and tires maybe another 10lbs for all four tires (once again unsprung weight)
wilwood brake upgrade w lightweight four piston calibers...should be good for another 10lbs of unsprung weight
lightweight front and rear control arms...i read an article somewhere that is saved 24lbs for the front and rear control arms...this would also be unsprung weight.
*just incase you don't know about unsprung weight, it's supposed to feel equal to something like 10 times the actually weight. ie the 10lbs saved from something like lightweight rim/tire combo would feel equal to 100lbs taken out of the car. .......This is something i've heard, however i myself find it hard to believe so if anyone could vouch for this statement or correct me please feel free to do so.
other weight reduction ideas
non reclinable racing seats. maybe 30lbs saved for a pair
lexan winshield..saved someone with a del sol 17lbs
10 gallon fuel cell insteed of steal gas tank or whatever the si gastank is made of.
spare and jack atleast 20lbs
rear crossbeam from the backseat weights 22lbs in the si, but i think it has something to do with handling or safety so i would probably leave it.
hmm what else....
swap intake probably save 5lbs over stock
swap exhaust probably save some weight over stock
straight pipe instead of cat
get rid of all the exhaust heat shields from under the car.....damn i was on a role for a sec

I just took out all the carpet in my 92 Si today. I am going to get some dry ice and remove the tar on the floor boards. I need something to do while I wait for my tranny to get here. Oh, and I plan on putting the carpet back in once the tar is gone.
this is off topic but where did you get this. i know it from somewhere.

Thank's for all your replies, even the sarcastic ones! When i'm at the track I always start off with 5 gallons of race fuel. I also use a set of 13x8 Bogarts. Out of everything listed I guess I would start off by removing the rear bumper support, and the seats whenever I go to the track. I already run a magnaflow with no cat.
We'll I appreciate the help guys, thank's!

I just did this last week in my 93 Si. All of it, in the hatch, under front and rear seats...all except for a little 6X6 patch behind the coil box plastic. All came to a total weight of only 13 lbs. You can also cut a piece of metal out of the tailgate--but its only sheetmetal and weighs 1lb at the most.
