brakes will win or lose a race for you. PERIOD!
Our pads held up well but I keep boiling the fluid big time.
Saturdays race.
James kicked my butt on qualifing again. only by .5 of a second.
Find out field will be inverted for the start of the feature race.
There was serious racer disention. No one liked that idea. I can't say that I loved it but it would have definately made racing interesting. After a talk with the drivers inverting the field within your class was the final decision. I was fine with that.
So for the start i'm on the 3rd row outside.....green flag goes and my mAd strEEt rAcIng mAd 3rd gEAr skIllz get to shine. I go from 6th to first by the first turn...i don't see james behind me....i put the hammer down and hope he gets caught in traffic but alas on the back straight there he was behind me....dang that boy can drive i run a couple of 1.05. until....the yellow flag comes out.....whooo hoo....good save tires and brakes...i slow way down....i'm not keeping up with the pace car....anyways after 2 laps i set myself up to get a run on everyone (get the jump on them on the restart) that worked well.....jumped way out in front. run 4 more 1.05's then settle down and start racing...james has gotten past me at this point....we are jocking for posistion (well i was) putting my nose in on him just trying to make him make a mistake....but that didn't happen....so lap 11....on the back straight my brakes go out....138 mphs and no brakes.....pumping like mad....decided to drive straight off....only go off 20 yards or so and get right back on track....i can still see james so i hammer down....brakes are there again when i go into turn one....so i go full throttle from top of hill to end of braking zone....
push the brake pedal and nothing happens....and i mean NOTHING...goes right to the floor....start pumping the pedal.....slow down to about 100....start yanking the ebrake like a ***** on crack.....in the grass doing bout 70....still pumping and yanking the ebrake....heading right towards the walll...head on.....i'm thinking this is not good....pull ebrake and turn car so it is a side impact instead of frontal (my thinking here is...if i damage side i can still drive....frontal will cause radiator damage and finish us for the weekend..) get the car turned enough for the rear to hit first and brought the side around.....while in the air i was restarting the car and flooring it.....by the time i get back on track curpier warren and jason have caught up to me....i probably had a 15-20 lead on them....so i fall in behind them and watch jason and warren battle....i'm behind curpier and just stay there....i figured i'd drag him down the straight after the last turn on white flag lap....so i bide my time using the engine to brake since i have no brakes left....but i'm lossing power bigtime.....nothing over 8k.....sounds like ecu is throwing it into limp mode....but i'm still able to race with curpier and jason and warren....pit crew signals to me that there's about 5 minutes left.....so i made my move on curpier and get by him....figure i'll just drive the inside line and block him the rest of the race and take second place.....(WHICH I SHOULD HAVE DONE BUT NO>>>>>
same lap we come down off the hill on the back side and JAMES is right there.....not way out in front but right there.....within striking distance...so i try and get pass jason but he is able to out brake me cause i HAVE NO BRAKES!!! white flag comes out an jason is trying to get past james....i'm trying to get past jason....final corner....i'm gonna try a deep brake....james goes inside...jason goes outside....i follow james......OH CRAP.....backend slides out....what just happened....i followed james off track....ends up he broke his axel there....i hit something that came out...i get back on track and finish 7th overall and 4th in class but ended up 3rd cause someone got DQ's....
over all a great race....it's my fault i messed up....should have checked the brakes before going in at 140...if i would have i would have been right there and james and i would have battled again....
after the race we pulled the plugs and 2o the tips of the plugs were gone...thus the reason i had no power and was still running 108's

we are on the starting line.....
he was inside i was outside....the street racing skills come out again and i am first by turn 1....now i will say i'm pretty sure james let me have that cause I'm 100% sure he is not launching his car due to his axel issues....
james and i end up battling and changing leads 6 or 7 times for about 10 laps....
after 7 laps though my brakes are gone....boiled the fluid already...i'm not going to go to far into the mental games that were going on while we were racing but i guarentee you that both james and i were driving at about 70%.....why? well for one i didn't want to go off again...learned my lesson the day before....he had to nurse his axel if he wanted to finish....but i did want to push james enough that he would be thinking about his axel....when i passed him for the last time we had lap traffic in front of us and he wen to the outside and i dove in on him....i thought this was the best time for me cause of the brake issues....
he played with me trying to go inside then outside....he was in my mirror from then on....i'm pretty sure he was seeing where his car could pull on mine etc....but we were dead even above 70 mph....my strategy at that time was to just stay in front....don't do anything stupid....brake early use the engine to slow you down (thank goodness for 10,000 rpms) and drive the inside line...james had been slowing down through 2-6 for 5 laps prior to white flag....i think he was conserving his axel but i didn't know....i thought maybe he was trying to get a line on me for when the white flag came out....so finally white flag came out...and he tries to go outside in turn one....i speed up just enough to close the door....then he slows down again after turn 2....i slow down too....i know he can't pull on me.....so he can't take me on the outside....my thinking here at turn 4 was to control his speed...make it my race to win or lose....so for next 2 turns i'm only partial throttle we only get up to 95 on the back straight....he tries to go pass but i change my entry line and speed up....remember cars are dead even neither of us can pull on the other....use the engine to brake into the uphill turn and take the inside line....he goes outside and i just hammer on the throttle and take the checked flag with james right in my mirror.....i was estatic....was a great race....i was able to watch matt an john battle behind me....
talk to james after the race and he had lost his brakes too....so the pace we had was a good one for both of us....he didn't brake his axel and we both finished and had a blast....
after the race it was a real let down for me emotionally because of the intense battle during the race. i really didn't know how to feel....and still don't....the race wasn't a 10/10ths physical battle it was more mental....and i liked that....by far the best racing i have had to date and i'm sure james and i will be battling more....
