Semi-OT: What Honda should do
OK guys I put some thought into this one after I heard the Prelude was getting axed. The reason this happened is because the ITR dethroned the Lude as the best-handling FWD car out there, and people who were looking for a high performance luxury Honda sport coupe could buy the Accord V6 coupe which is every bit as quick in a straight line. So that left the Lude in no man's land - not as sporty as the R, not as luxurious as the Accord coupe. So now it is gone. Here is what I propose for Honda.
*Bring back the Prelude name, but make it RWD.
*Give it a 3.0, 300hp (VTEC of course) version of the Accord V6, or build a 3.0 300hp I-6 and connect it to a 6-speed manual.
*Stretch the S2000 platform, and offer the new 'Lude on it as a 2+2 coupe.
*Price it at around $45-50K or so.
So there you have it. An honest-to-god 2+2 sports car with a 300 6-cylinder engine and 6-speed, slotted between the S2K and the NSX in both price and performance. This would give Honda a viable competitor to cars like the 911, BMW M3, and upcoming Nissan Z. Figure similar performance to all three - 0-60 in a bit less than 5 sec. Tell me what you think.

If they made it an SUV they would probably sell a ton of them.
They do, and they are selling a ton of them.
NSX rocks, plain and simple. Why?
Mid-engine, rear-drive layout - the same used by Ferrari, Lamborghini, F1, CART, etc.
Bionic reflexes, 0-60 in 4.9 sec., 6 speed = basically a Japanese Ferrari. The difference? Around town, drives as easily as your basic Prelude. And costs $90K instead of $150K (list) for a Ferrari 360. when you look at its competitors, it' a bargain. Next generation will have 400hp and will be even quicker.
But what do you think of my idea man...stay on topic

And they filled the correct market with all the soccer moms that'll NEVER take anything like a Hummer or an Escalade off road or Hell even off the beaten path, "like a paved sideroad." I hate F*ckin SUV's and the 3'4" witches that pilot them like floundering land yachts just ready to beach......
My wife wanted an MDX , and I would let her get one " even with my strong loathing, after all it IS a HONDA!" But she came to her senses and now wants a CL Type-S. Better choice I think!

well at least I got some feedback.
you might be right about the name.
the CL Type-S is getting a 6-speed manual, but that car can't even carry a BMW's bags when it comes to handling (FWD with no LSD)
I'm sure they could make the seats decent - the M3 has fine ones.
I only said 45-50K so it would be sure not to step on S2000's toes and so people would know it was in a diff. league than CL. I'm sure Honda could make this car for 35K.

**** I didnt read your post carefully. Yes Honda will come out with a prelude replacement and it will be rear drive based of the s2K I believe. WTF!! its 1:20am. I'll try and find the link tomorrow....
maybe with the Acura badge...would never take off with the Honda badge...not in Japan anyways..this is what I think honda should do...
1. 2002 Integra Type R platform with AWD
2. 2.0L Turbo V-tec I-4 300ps@7800rpms
3. 6-speed manual only
4. Price 28,000 usd to compete with STi and Evo VII
any takers?

Good point about the AWD, why doesnt Honda get into the WRC scene?? Thats how the IMpreza became sooo freekin popular, One thin I will say AWD is nice, ( I have a WRX along with my R), however believe it or not, sometime I feel there is too much traction, I wish for rear drive sometimes, the one cool thing about the manual tranny in the WRX is that it 10% front and 90% rear driv ein normal driving, and if you do it right you can get the rear to step out on you in corners..hehe
I would love to see an AWD Type R, as far as turbo on a factory HONDA.................it will never happen in a million years, HONDA's stance on turbos is this..........it (turbo) is a cheap and unrelaible way to cover up poor engineering.

Dude that's too weird. I just came up with that idea on my own but you say it's actually going to happen - the RWD Prelude part at least. Weird...
I like short girls. Mine is like 5 feet. it makes it easier to laugh at them when they want something.
Is the S2k engine any heavier than the B18C? If not, hell - with the tranny under the car and the drive wheels out back, you'd end up with 50/50 weight in a RWD Type R. How freakin' cool would that be? Oh, and up the power a bit, too
