How much you looking to spend? What type of bike sport, touring, cruiser? Take the MSF safety course and sign up now. Don't know how your area is, but they fill up quick around here.

There should be one near you. Don't forget to factor in your riding gear into your budget of $1k (unless you've done so already).

Is the bike a GSX-R?

I have some stuff because my step dad used to ride alot. I think it is a GSX-R not for shure but its blue white and silver if that helps, i've only seen it once for about 3 seconds.

Do you have any exp. riding at all? I mean likeadirt bike or something?

Personally I'd start with a Kawasaki ex500, with an exhaust system it would have enough ***** to make you smile when you ripped on it and you wouldn't be going so fast that you'd kill yourself. I've been told by many people both on here and in real life that it's a very good starter bike.

Katana's a good starter bike. GSX-R's hard on the wrists for a newbie who doesn't have the ride position down yet. It's also hard on the skin and pocketbook when you wad it up.

This forum needs a sticky post about good begginer bikes, where to learn to ride, a guide on riding gear, and other stuff for n00bs so that all of the good info is in one place.

When I started out, I bought a 90 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10. It was and still is fun too ride. It really doesn't matter about the bike, it matters about the respect you have for the bike. You gotta have respect for it. Because it will throw you down faster than you can blink.
