Default Bordeom leads to stupid ideas.... is this a stupid idea?

Well I was driving today... I came up with an idea...

Has anyone thought of wiring a pager so instead of vibrating or beeping, it activates a relay and shuts the car off?

And on another note... if someone stole your car and you turned it off.... and they just so happened to careen into a wall and die, would you get charged for murder?

Hopefully they would die for stealing your car. i wanna know how to do it too. they cops would never know you turned it off unless you told them. I wanna do it to my ride. i just built a kill switch for my ride. havent installed it yet but going to.

Just remember to disarm the bomb before you fire up your car. If not, things could get pretty messy.

Actually.....Yes. If you had a reciever that would have some type of
output. The problem is in this country we sue everyone for anything.
In Illinois a crook won damages by suing the owner of a car he was
trying to steal which had pain generators installed inside the cabin
which cause him hearing loss in one ear and partial in the other..
I kid you not on this one.

WTF......welcome to America

Yeap, I heard of this guy who sued his neighbor when the neighbor's car ran over his foot. Come to find out, the guy was trying to steal the car when somehow the car ran over his foot.

BTW: you could just wire a kill switch so that it shuts off power to your car when it is started up w/o disarming the alarm....

No way! No ******* way! I am working on a prototype right now with my partner (business partner not homosexual). We got a 2 year old motorola Pager and for like $9 a month with to fancy **** we got a number and took it apart. We have got the beeper and vibrator disconnected and now working on the switch part. We need to wire that up but are having some problems with getting the scematics right. The last 2 pagers we cooked. If you can figure it out because all the companies that we had pagers from (Motorola, and 2 Panisonics) will not give us the interior wiring blue prints to work it out. I guess it will be a trial and error type deal. The setup is going on my S13.

The only hard part(s) would be finding the ringing output off the chip, and then seeing if its strong enough to trip a relay ( and if not then making it strong enough).

A company we deal with had that same idea, about 7 or 8 years ago. they could start and stop our remote starters with a call. They stopped making them a long time ago, but you might get lucky...

Do a search on something called a Polar-Page . You could use the pulsed output to latch a relay...

Here is another thing that you can do that we have been trying to work out. We have looked and got some information to rig a long distance bomb wiring but instead of it setting off a bomb it kills your car. So that when you hit a switch your car dies in mid run. But the only problem is the only ones that the public can buy is good within a mile. The Pager idea is the way to go because you can call from anywhere on the planet and still have the car kill.

Hmmm so If I solve your problem for you....I become the third party right
or should i just do a Microsoft and make you go away

I belive I figured a way to do it...but ill never tell ( then again maybe
my duaghter will have a cool science fair project next term...)

actually this is a really good idea...a fuel pump kill won't cause an accident, but it WILL give you a good chance of stopping the thief before he gets to wherever he's planning on chopping your car. you'll just have to wait for the cops to find it and go pick it up on the highway somewhere!

Well I hooked it up to one of my junk preludes to see if it will work. Well needless to say when I dialed the number on the pager it fried the curcuits on it. I am so pissed I have like $150 in this project and none of the pagers worked. The electricity flow is just too high for the pager to handle. I am going to trouble shoot the pager and with the last remaining one we have try and reinforce it to make it work, but as it stands it is not looking good .

Oh....I know I know...

I gave you a hint on your other post.
Its really a simple circuit to design....I could
hold your hand on this one....show you step
by step...but how would you learn

I don't know why you would want to put that in your car. How would you feel if your "idea" killed some kid crossing a street because the power sterring and brakes or abs went out.

If I put it on my CRX there is no problem because my car doesnt have any of those . And it wouldnt be my fault I didnt steal the car. That is like saying if someone smashed into a poll and oil spilled on the street and the thief drove by and spun out and killed a kid. It wouldnt be the guy who hit the polls fault. That is adding insult to injury.

Why wouldn't you just install a starter kill so it couldn't be stolen in the first place?

i dont know if you are doing this or not (i just popped in my head while reading), but why not run a resistor in-line to the pager so that there is less of a chance of frying the pager. you could start off with one that has a high resistance and then gradually step down until it runs to your liking. just a thought. hope it helps. if it does, i would definitely be interested in one of these. thanks.

dude i'm so sorry to burst your bubble a bit.

but this idea is FULLY patented since 1995, patent number 5,028 something (i'll post within 24 hrs)

it patents the idea of pager dialing, pager functions, a multiplexor type device to output to specific relays and all

i looked it up a while back for an engineering project and they even have circuitry to ONLY kill the car when the rpm is below a certain level (like Idle)

-Rage

worst part is, i havn't even SEEN this product on the market!
