Default Motor rebuild checklist - bearings, seals, etc..

Hiya guys,

I figured I'd ask in the ITR forum because some tech people are actually in this forum, basically I am rebuilding my GSR motor to ITR specs because I am cheap, and I find the setup most bang for the buck in my situation..

I just wanted a run down of parts I should be looking to buy for my rebuild..on my check list I have the following..

All new bearings [thrust, main, rod]
new oil pump
new waterpump
new timing belt

now where I am confused is where people say new "seals/gaskets" - what seals should I be looking for. I know I was gonna replace the head gasket + oil pan gasket..

but what else am I lookin to buy..

thanks

if your using all OEM parts you can simply go to the dealer and ask for a complete engine gasket kit. and it will include every single gasket for that specific engine.

Well, I guess it depends, much of the stuff that come in gasket kits is often reusable, or you didn't take that part appart, and those gasket kits are kinda expensive...they come as a top end gasket kit, and a bottom end gasket kit an combined I think are over $200 for an ITR. For example, the injector o-ring gaskets and intake manifold gaskets you probably didn't even take off, and the exhaust manifold gasket is reusable, the valve cover gromets are reusable, and so on.

The top end gasket kit comes with:
€intake manifold
€exhaust manifold (reusable)
€cylinder head gasket
€valve cover gasket
€cam seals
€valve seals
€valve cover seals and grommets
€injector seat o-rings

The bottom end gasket set comes with:
€Oil pan gasket
€Oil pickup unit gasket
€Waterpump gasket
€Main crank seal
€and various bottom-end o-rings ( I think
they go between the crank cradle and the
block where there's an oil passage???)

Any way, good luck with it....what were you doing, just a rebuild or performance mods????

Later,
Aj

Oh yeah, on a side note, if you're getting all new bearings and seals/gaskets, if you didn't plan on it already, you should replace your rings, valve spring seats, and make sure to check your v-tech plungers and lost motion assmeblies.

Later,
Aj

if you are buying a new water pump and oil pump you wont need the entire bottem end gasket set b/c they already come with new gaskets. just buy an oil pickup gasket, rear main seal and oil pan gasket. you end up saving like 20 bucks.
