Exhaust again guys........
Is it really worth it to mess with the exhaust on an R if you dont have a nice header system in place?
My goal is to get 180 whp as cheap, safe, and reliable as possible.
I am getting ready to install an AEM CAI, Magnecor 8.5mm wires, and an MSD SS Blaster coil which i already have. I heard it is normal for somewhat modified engines to run 18 degrees timing? Is this correct?
Anything more that i should look into in achieving my goal? Thanks guy.

You don't need exhaust to hit 180 whp but you can if you want. It does't hurt performance and it is lighhter. Just don't expect more than 2-4 whp gain is all.
Can you give me an explanation to back up the statement of not using the MSD coil or Magnacor 8.5mm wires? I would appreciate as i am learning as much as possible. Thanks.

The coil is not bad if you also have a ignition system to feed it. As far as the magnecor wires, if you want aftermarket, get the NGK's. I just got rid of my MSD wires in favor for the NGK's, and I'll say this, it was worth it.
Later.
Later.
EPGONZALEZ got his car dyno'd yesterday and it made 178 whp on a stock motor w/ just the Mugen CAI and Mugen cat-back! Not the cheapest items, but it works!

sgt - I value your opinon .... but I don't think the stock wires are the "best"
They are of excellent quality and the core is very thick but not the best.
I know this doesn't qualify but I have a set of custom cut Carbon fiber Racing wires which were a prototype for an "UnKnown" company. Just about no resistance ..... I'm getting better fuel consuption and overall responsiveness. Definitely not a placebo .... my stock wires were only 2000 miles old. I swapped them back and forth 4 or 5 times and I was able to tell when the CF wires were in or not. (did a blind test with a friend)
I wish I could get my hands on some wire for you guys to try out yourself.
These are not the same that you see advertised in the mags. The core is twice as thick.

If you could that would be cool.
We dyno tested all the plug wires we could get our hands on and the
stock wires came out on top followed closely by NGK and then magnacore
was 3rd but by a greater margin. Granted we are talking about a
difference of a few hp, but when you are LOSING hp, its a waste of money.

im changing to the mugen 2.5 header and a few other items..im anxious to see what it will do..i couldnt believe how small the collector was on the usdm header..looked like a traffic jam for sure...
Magnacore wires have been known to have insulation problems. I've known of at least three cases among my group of freinds where Magnacores have been shorting to the block through the cladding on the wire.
