Oil pressure sending unit question
I was told I would need a 1/8 bspt male to 1/8 npt female to hook my electric oil gauge up, I was told the new sending unit does not have the right threads to use on my block. Can anyone else confirm this, because I am having a hard time finding this fitting. Any help ?
Well if I do need it, the autozone website says they should have it at my local store. So the guy working there lied to me and said they only had the ones behind the counter.
yup u have to use bspt, its kinda like the standard and metric thing, bspt is british standard pipe thread, and npt is national pipe thread.
you do need it ... i got mine from the V8 dressup isle(at autozone).. i think it was in a pack with an assortment of brass adapter fittings made by sunpro...
Did it come with a clear hose to ? Thats the one I saw on there website. The guy at the store looked threw a bunch of them behind the counter that were in a big box and said he did not have anything and I asked him if he any in the ile and he said no. But then he said a shipment was coming in, so I'm gonna go back to that store and see if they have it, if not I'm gonna have to run to the other autozone. Thanks guys.

Well the thing looks like it will screw into the block, but it don't screw into my oil pressure sender all the way, it only goes about 2 full turns. I tryed threading my old stock sending unit into the brass adapter and it goes right on, all the way to. Now what ? Did I get the wrong fitting ? Or is it not suppose to fit on all the way ? Just for the hell of it, I tryed the fitting they gave me with the sender, and it does the same thing as the other ones do. It won't thread all the way on. Is this normal ? If it don't thread all the way, but its still tight and I use thread sealant, do you guys think I'll be ok ?

Alittle update, I went back and exchanged the ones with the same ones, because it seems like all the packages have been open. Plus I bought the t fitting. Well the sending unit still will not plug into the adapter piece. But the t fitting does. But then the one piece of the t fitting will not go into the block. So I'm gonna have to use some of the other adapters plug the t fitting. I can't beleive the regular adapter won't fit.
I figured it out, well basically the T fitting piece worked plus some other adapters. I'm gonna keep a close eye on it and make sure its good to go becase I know some people had trouble with it coming loose, but I also know some people that never had a problem with it getting loose. Thanks for the help.
BPST is a flared thread. The fact that it only went in two threads means you were putting a standard or AN fitting into a BPST adapter or vice versa.
FYI.
you were doing this:
\_/ this was trying to thread into
|_| this, basically. Make sense?

Thanks man, But I know how to hook it all up and what pieces I need. Like I said I have EVERYTHING I need but piece "B" that is posted in that diagram. Where did everyone else get theirs from? Ive gone to plumbers supply stores, home depot, lowes everywhere, and when I ask for British standard pipe thread they look at my like Im from the Taliban or something.

My pics, on my B16A will be up late tonight.. i have to download them, and throw them up on my FTP.. they will be up later on tonight.
its very true that mounting it they way i did, and a solid connection to the block could vibrate, and break off.. i've never seen it.. but its possible.. but looking threw the post, and that pic above, the steal braided line, mounted to the firewall for flex.. is the ultimate way, problem free 100%.. but quite expencive.. send me 5 bucks, and i'll send you all the hardware you'll need.. a male to 2 female 1/8 NTP "T" fitting, and you'll be in bussiness.

yeah.. matt.. put your "T" in, then put your sending unit on.. the T isn't that big.. or if anything... take the filter off, put the sending unit on, and then put the filter back on.. (hopefully a new one)
same spot...if you try to install the sending unit directly onto the block, you'll need a different filter. Someone posted that you can use a HAMP oil filter. I guess they are narrower than the OEM filter size.
