on b16a pistons-nothing
on "R" parts- machine the pistons (or rods) about 2mm

Why?

GSR Rods on ebay cost like 80 bux.

Machine shop labor for that kind of work will cost you more than that.

well, i have both gsr rods and ls rods...the gsr ones are shorter, so i thought they wouldnt work...please let me know if they do...i was going to put my gsr pistons on the ls rods...i also have jdm sir1 b16a pistons i could use, but i read that will bump compression to 11.7:1, and i thought that would be a little high. please let me know your thoughts, obviously this is going into an ls/vtec setup, and right now i have stock valvetrain on a gsr head.

11.7 is fine for pump gas. Use the LS rods, but be sure to add some ARP rod bolts, and balance the bottom end. Then there will be no problems reving up.

11.7:1 is a little high. I had 11:1 in my LS/VTEC and had to dial back the timing a few degrees to avoid detonation. But this is on 91 octane, you probably have better fuel in Ohio.

yeah, our gas is pretty good...i fill up with sunoco 94 octane. so do i need to shave anything off the rods for the b16 pistons? if so, what part of the rod or piston needs to be shaved?

GSR rods should be longer. You have to use LS rods with an LS crank, and GSR rods with a GSR crank.
LS rods are 5.394" C to C.
GSR rods are 5.433 C to C.

yeah, that was my bad, i typed it backwards. if i used the gsr crank and rods, would i lose the stroke? should i just stick with the ls rods and crank-i can get the bottom end balanced for fairly cheap.

LS stroke is 89 mm. GSR stroke is 87.2mm. GSR has a slightly better rod ratio, which means better for high rpm operation. It is a matter of preference, and what you have available to you, parts wise.

i will probably just stick with the ls rods and crank and just get them balanced...do i need to machine the rods for the b16 pistons, or does that just go for type r pistons?

I don't know about B16 pistons, I have heard that no machining is necessary. If the small end of the rod fits in the piston-you are o.k. GSR/CTR/ITR pistons will not fit an LS rod without machining, for sure.

so do you machine the rod or the piston??also, will that mess with the balance of the rod or the piston?

When I built an LS/VTEC, I had the small end of the rods machined, then balanced the rotating assembly.
