I was just wondering if there were things that could tell you if your engine is rich or not besides the spark plugs. I have a 98 jdm h22 in a 96 accord. I will by setting up my direct port soon and just want to make sure everything is ok. My spark plugs are sort of this green/light gray color. If you look at my muffler and in the exhaust ports, it is a black color. Am I running lean or rich? Thanks

ahem - anyway, your plugs should be a light brown, dark grey-like color.

edit: what fuel pump are you using

 

the first dead giveaway for your car running rich is the fact that its a Honda. Honda's run rich, simple as that, sounds like your fine.

 

just assuming everything is ok is the first step to having your engine laying in pieces in the garage.

give us more info on your setup - mods, fuel and fuel system... accord pump?

 

what are the indication on the plugs of it is running rich? i know white is lean.

 

if they look like someone took a **** on them and smothered them in dirty oil...your runnnig rich.

lol, nice thanks. i understand what you are saying dont get me wrong... but is what you are describing the same thing as fried plugs from spraying?

 

if they are oily, thats usually not a great sign

 

My setup is pretty much stock including the accord fuel pump, msd digital 6+ and ss coil, then your basic i/h/e. I have a walbro 255 pump, b&m guage and fuel modifier waiting to go in. Thanks for your input.

 

Here are the results from my last emissions test that was about 2 weeks ago.

HC- .0969...limit 1.2
CO- 2.4238...limit 20.0
NOx- .2520...limit 3.0

It says on the bottom that a high CO reading means that it is running rich. So how do you interpret my numbers? What does a CO reading of 0.0 mean?

drive with a friend behind you, and floor it, ask your friend if he saw black smoke come out. i once saw a thread wtih a picture of exhaust all over his garage door, running rich
