Default help...my teg is whistling while idling in reverse

its a 95 ls with 64,2XX miles on it. anyway it just started tonight when i was backing out of the drive way and it started making a whistling sound. the car only has cold air intake exhaust and headers. could it be a loose engine mount? tranny?

Does it sound like a high pitched whine?!? If so, I'm having the same damn problem - only happens in reverse.

It could be the low indicators on your brake pads. For some reason when they are getting low they only squeel in reverse. Check all your brake pads.

all reverse gears are supposed to make the high pitched whine. Reverse gear is straight cut vs the helical/taper cut(something like that). Every honda i have heard does that in reverse.

This abnormal whine just started a few months ago and its the first time I've heard it in the 5 years that I've owned my car, so I'm 100% sure its not normal.

Do you have an amplifier in your trunk?

If you do, I'm willing to bed that you grounded it on the tail light, and that noise is interference coming through your amp.

youre describing how the alternator whines when you have a poorly grounded amp. I think the poster says it only occurs in reverse.

EDIT:
Actually, he never mentioned where the whining sound comes from. Speakers? engine compartment? hello?

I'm not sure about the poster, but the whine I hear is coming from the front of my car, more closer to the left front wheel. To get a better understanding of the noise, I'll say is sounds almost as if you dragged your nails across a school chalkboard. The oddity of it all is that it only happens in reverse.

Gizzer98: What you are describing sounds like the brake pad low indicator. It usually is much louder in reverse.
