Default Any way to stop my Intake from Whistling?

I bought a cold air intake and left out the small pipe at the end, so I'm using it as a short ram. Now it whistles loudly whenever I step on the gas, and supposedly the AEM one does that too. What do you guys think of the whistling - do you like it or not?

I was told that it's caused by air moving into/through the throttle body and around the butterfly. It has to do with the throttle position (i.e., how far open the butterfly is) and how the air is rushing through the TB. Can anyone explain this to me better, and where's the butterfly?

And finally my main question is if there's any way to stop the whistling?

my intake use to do that but after i took the intake off to clean the filter and put it back on the noise stopped? i just guessed it was a loose clamp or something that allowed a little air in which made it whistle....? a couple of my friends cars do that, so it seems normal.

All aftermarket intakes whistle at one point or another. I've heard many cars whistle even with the stock airbox, particularly the '88-91 Civics.

My '00 Civic Si (stock airbox) whistles every once in a while, depending on throttle position. My '93 Civic (stock airbox) started whistling after I put a K&N drop-in filter on it. However, neither of these cars has had the intake resonator installed . . .

Dude, you beat me to it. When my Civic was stock, the whistling sound was pretty loud, but never annoying. It was obvious when you listened for it. Now, with my B16 and AEM CAI, it still whistles but it's hard to hear over the noise of the engine. I have I/H/E, so that may play a role in not hearing the CAI too well, plus the B16 is just a louder engine period compared to the D15. It's still there, but less noticeable than when my car was stock.

And for the record, I like that whistling noise

I know it doesn't hurt anything and I can put up with it if I have to, I was just wondering if there's any way to stop it from whistlin. And I know that some cars make a whistling noise anyway, but this is much louder and more noticeable, very high-pitched.

If it's coming from air moving into/through the throttle body and around the butterfly, should the sound be coming from the throttle body if you listen up close? And what exactly is the butterfly?

For some reason when I cleaned off my idle screw and re-adjusted it, the whistle went away. Now all I hear is the normal air sound, not the high pitched noise. BTW I am also running a cai without the down pipe hooked up(short ram).

the suction that occurs when the butterfly its partial open causes the air to turbulent and suck in a weird way.... and causes a whistle sound.. thats sounds kewl if u ask me.... but theres mp actual way to make it go.....

Mine did that before the intake and after installing the intake. It seems to only happen at certain RPM's and only when I'm gettin' on it in second gear, does this sound like a similar problem?

it's the plate inside your throtle body that blocks the airflow when you're at idle and spins 90 deg when your at WOT.

Most cars that have the whistle have it because of one of 2 things:
1. dirty throtle body... Like 90ef said - pull the idle screw, clean it up, reinstall, set the Idle.

2. miss-adjusted Idle... most Honda's I've seen have the idle screw turned all the way in and are relying on the EACV to keep the engine idling at the proper RPM. Pull the idle screw, clean it up, reinstall, set the idle (corectly this time)
