Default Mugen Valve cover - Fake or real?

A buddy of mine just received his new MUGEN valve cover yesterday and he thinks it is fake. Is there any way to distinguish the fake one from the mugen one? He noticed a few imperfections on the valve cover as well as several other things which makes him believe he got ripped off. He bought this from the same reputable company he ordered his mf-10's, front end, hood, as well as several other authentic mugen items from. Any help is apprecaited.

he should have just ordered from King and it wouldnt have to worry about this. Theres to many fakes out there, so someone could have sucker punched his *** for the price of a real one but gave him a fake one.

The real one is smooth toward the cam gears, the fake one has two bumps.

skafia: real ones have the bumps as well. that picture is really bad and others (such as EP if I recall correctly) confirmed they had the cam gear "bumps".

Yah, this guy owns two of them. One on his car and he eats sushi off the other.

you can see that the "Mugen" is longer on the real cover than the fake

just wasted time looking at the mugen catalog and the two cam gear humps are obviously there. so that is def not the way to tell. the text is different as the post above pointed out though.

here's a picture of my real valve cover. just to confirm that those two bumps are there. only way you can tell is the "mugen" is longer and the font is narrower on the real one.

on the realy ones "mugen" is flush with the valve cover, on the fake one "mugen" is raised up a little. Thats a easy way to tell them apart I heard some where.

Thanks for all the help. Personally, theres no way in holy hell i would blow $800 on a valve cover, the stock one works good enough for me. My friend is going ***** to the wall with his JDM project so of course this valve cover was on his check list. But to each his own... Thanks again.

If you go to jdmhondaparts.com and then click on jdm parts ---> mugen ---> engine then picture for valve cover, we got a winner

If there are some imperfections then it's not the real deal yo check underneath the valve cover for oil baffle plates which help dissipate oil onto the cams and valve-train.
