b18b or b16a????
i know it's been covered before, but i have a b16 in my crx, and i have a b18b long block just sitting. i was gonna do a ls/vtec, but decided against it. so i'm trying to decide weather or not it would be in my best interest to put the ls in place of the b16. i'm going turbo very soon, so i have to think about that also.
if i stay b16, then eventually i will replace the b16 block with a sleved b18c.
any ideas???

not really my freind is planning to do this. if your taking the block apart to get the b16 sleeved then there isnt much diffrence, the only diffrences is you have to run the oil line, use your b16 oil pump
if your building the motor anyways your gonna get alot more power out of a b18 block than a b16 block.
you could get a sleeved b18 and bore it to b20 specs, use the b20 je pistons, and rods and make some serious power.
theres not a whole lot involved.

Ask the guys in the F/I forum. I've heard a couple say that a B16 is basically the perfect engine for a T3/T4 turbo, but the LS engine puts out some serious #s on boost...
Well if you want to stay pretty much stock as far as building the engine is concerned, i would go with the b18. I only say this because you can run more boost stock due to the lower CR. If you decide to build the engine then its really a matter of preferance. A built b16 will be a top end monster and a built b18 will be a low end monster. Either way i, personally, would go with the b18. Just because i have one thats NA and i LOVE the torque....especially in our light *** cars. I cant imagine the torque you would get with a LS turbo in a EF. Im sure there are alot of people out there that would argue this, but like i said this is just my opinion. Plus the b18 will have a higher top speed because of its longer tranny gearing. Which means you will be killing supras and vettes on the highway. Good luck with watever you do.

the reason alot of people say the b16 is perfect for boost is b/c of its near perfect R/S ratio. The LS/VTEC is a cheaper solution to a full b16 block and yields more displacement stock. With the b18b shortblock, you can bore it over more than the b16 resulting in higher torque numbers and ultimately more hp. The beauty of doing a LS/VTEC is that while you have you b16 installed, you can practically build the b18b completely so that the block swap won't take much more time than a normal motor swap. The key thing that has to be done on the b18b shortblock is the oil line tap and the dowel holes. They don't quite line up between the b16 and b18b, so you either will have to get one of them machined or just get some offset dowels. Also, be sure to use an appropiately bored honda OEM head gasket, if necessary.
