My car smokes sometimes and I get terrible gas mileage on my ZC, how to fix?
OK ever since I got my car running last Friday (or Saturday was when it was really fixed) it has periodically shot out smoke from time to time. It doesn't usually do it when I'm at sustained rpm like on the highway, but more so if I go from a stop. It will billow out whiteish smoke, sometimes darker colored. I checked my oil and I was really low and today I checked it after I filled it up 2 days ago and now there is a decent amount gone (I take it it was burned up and that is what the smoke comes from). What can I do to fix it? Aren't there some kind of seals I need to replace or something if it does that?
Also it gets horrible gas mileage. I got 180miles/tank on my last fillup, I had about 2 gallons more left so I figure I could get 200 to the tank at best maybe a tiny bit more. Would not having any kind of intake (just a filter on the TB) cause that, my reasoning is the car is getting air very easily so maybe the computer over compensates by dumping in tons of fuel?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try replacing your PCV valve. From what I have been told when your PCV valve starts to go bad it lets oil through causing it to smoke occasionally. It may not be your problem, But it is worth the cheap try. Hope this helps!
Mine seems to be doing the same thing, does yours leak oil onto the ground at all?
No, I have no leaks. Would Honda have the PCV (is that the thing on the charcoal canister?) and if so what car do I get it for? (If it is the charcoal canister thing I guess '89 Civic DX one will be fine for me.
if it's white smoke you should probably look into your gasket's, i.e. headgasket. just an idea........
you want to change your pcv valve, its on your intake manifold, one of the runners, should be a little plastic piece with a ball in it. get a honda one. this will cause bad gas mileage. but really your mileage isnt all that horrible. i have 192 on my tank now with 1/4 tank left, and its a sohc zc. but if the pcv valve doesnt fix your problem, look into replacing your valve stem seals and your valve cover gasket + spark plug o rings. and if that doesnt solve it, tear the bitch down and replace the piston rings and headgasket.

kyle's plan of attack seems pretty reasonable- & is probably the best way to start as it starts w/ teh cheaper & easier issues & goes up from there.

Wait is the PCV attached to a hose? Anyone have pictures? It's not on the hose that comes out of the middle 3 hoses on the intake manifold is it?
Because my hose was rotten so I had a shop put a new one in and I bet they just throw away the valve in that. That would explain it. But a picture would help a lot.

Perhaps you meant to post a picture with that reply? Or do you mean the thing on the hose is? If it is that means I currently have NO PCV valve.

the larger middle hose that comes of the top of the intake manifold, should lead down to a plastic peice (pcv valve) then a hose should lead down to a black box on the back of your block. and there we have the positive crank-case ventalation system.
Yeah I looked in my Acura Chiltons for the PCV of an Integra and it has a picture just like the ZC one used to have. I will go get a new 89 Integra one tomorrow.
Anyone know if that could cause the car to stall out, not having one?
