Default Texas & Emissions

Hey...i drove my car down to austin, tx from ny for the summer. I am here in austin now and realized that i need to renew my registration (car is registered in nevada cuz that is where i got it from), so i was going to have it smogged, which is required by nevada. I assumed it was required by all states, but apparently not? Austin doesn't require a smog test for plates? Is this really true? I guess i will just get texas plates now...i don't know what the deal is here...anyone know?

Getting your car emissions checked is not required by all states. Other than that I'm not sure what your question is?

Actually, it's regulated by county. Most of Texas really doesn't care. I posted awhile back about how they passed my Camaro with open headers. I took it up there as a joke, and they actually passed it! I've lived in Austin and San Antonio, and never had one. I think Dallas requires it, though (just moved here, not sure).

yeah, no smog testing in most of Texas. I think there might be testing in Dallas and maybe Houston, but not many other places.

Houston has a really strict emissions test. I don't know about the rest of TX though.

Dallas and houston is the same. All of texas will follow within the next 8 years (assuming it works ) It is the obd2 diagnostic test for 96-on and the dreaded dyno test for 95-and under.

If you are in Austin just head south down 35 to San Marcos. $12 and no emissions test.

I got (emmisions) checked in Arlington 2 years ago. And was also checked in Carrollton last year. Haven't done the dyno stuff yet. According to my sig, I don't think I would pass an ODBII diag inspection right now
