... hid... street legal...
... i was talking to a local shop about upgrading to hid's from the stock headlamps... they told me that it would not be street legal because the lamp would reflect too much light and blind oncoming drivers... i have never heard this before, is there any truth to this?... if so, what would i need to do to upgrade to hid's and still be street legal?... lemme know... thanks...
Modifying your headlight to HID(where I live) is not legal wheather it blinds people or not.
I have HID and it doesn't blind people as I never got flashed since I got them many months ago. You just need shields for them.

The headlight housing for OEM HID equipped vehicles is different then the housing for non-HID oem headlights....the officer is correct. It is technically illegal to put HID's on a non OEM equipped car.....but all quality kits will come with a glare shield to protect other drivers and a cutoff shield to preserve as much light as possible.
This is why taking the OEM HID system of another vehicle is more then just simply the bulb and ballast. Kits for reputable sellers like visualdynamics in Canada to Autolamps-online in England (and a few others that escape my mind right now) are worth the money.

Apex is right about the legal issues, most cops won't care b/c they either think it came with the car and they can't see you at night or don't know the law themselves.

Um, because that car has them equipped from the factory. like someone said already, no matter if you swap Hella/Bosch projectors/ballasts bulbs in from a different car into yours, its STILL illegal. And for on-coming drivers sake, don't just throw HID bulbs into your housings, especially if it's an H4 setup
