making ls faster
How can i get my ls 5speed to be faster. I have a 95 i dont drag race i mostly do street racing and HW. I hang with the gsr but i want more power to run with teh talens turbo. I want an all motor set up . My mods are msd, aem cai. greddy cat back. neuspeed N2 header & a peformance throtel body. what more can i doo beforing shaving and boring.
I'm going to be honest with you. Even though I'm sure you've noticed some power gain out of you intake, header, exhaust, I'm sure you're wondering why, for the money that you spent on the three, that you haven't gained more power out of it. Well, its simple. Those three bolt on's make a drastic effect on the performance of your car when you do head work to your motor. Get a decent set of Camshafts, valves, springs, retainers, and cam gears. Once instaled, dyno them to your desired type of racing, and, you'll be set. Thats the best thing you can do to an all motor car. If you're really serious about speed, then, I'd suggest adding some higher compression pistons, rings, and rods to your bottom block. The LS compression rate comes stock really low, which makes it perfect for turbo, but, since you're not going turbo, you're going to wanna raise that compression up.
Hope this helps.

Hey wussup? im new to this site and i have a bone stock 94 ls. i am now starting on motor work and was wondering what u guys think i should do. I was thinking of doing ls/vtec because i have a 00' si head sitting in my garage. My motor has 123000 miles and i want to run in the 13's but have a reliable engine for everyday driving.
Thanks
Thanks
what should i do to rebuild the bottom end.......and how could i find a good mechanic in my area? do u think any local honda specialist can rebuild the block? and should i get a gsr tranny or just keep mine?
thanks for your reply
thanks for your reply
you need to take the engine to a machine shop that has had good experience in re-building honda engines. but you will need a good mechanic who will remove the old engine for you. unless you plan to do it yourself.
as for parts. you will probably a set of connecting rods ($400-$600) a good set of high compression pistons. you can go for honda pistons from the ITR or B16A or JDM ITR/CTR pistons which will give you nice high compression. they will typically cost bewteen $250-$300 a set+rings. or you can get aftermarket pistons for about $400-$500+rings a set.
take all those parts to the machine shop have them high-speed balance the stock LS crank and assemble everything to spec. only use NEW HONDA BEARINGS.
then you have to decide if you want that Si head ported and if you want to keep those cams or use somthing better. adjustible cam gear will be nice for tuning..and of course you will need a good header/intake and exhaust.
it's not a cheap thing to re-build. but if done right it can be fun............if you think you can have all this for under 1500-2000 dollars think again......
good luck!
