How much will turbo quiet down the exhaust
im going to be buying an exhaust soon, but i want a quiet high flow exhaust. my question is turbo cars tend to have a quieter exhaust note than a N/a car, so if i get an exhaust that would generally be loud on a N/a car say the N1 would it still be a fart can on a turbo car? how much does it really quiet the exhaust note?

More air is being pushed into the engine, so inturn more exhaust gas is being pushed out. That would mean you would have a louder exhaust note on a FI motor then a N/A motor.

perhaps i have some mis information, but i read that due to the fact that the exhaust is no longer free flowing and is doing work on a turbine ie the turbo, and the swiling effect that it quiets the sound. maybe im wrong but 4 or 5 of my friends agree with me?
so are we talking a noticable difference, or just a little, im going for a the sleeper sound, but i need flow so i don't lose power , unfortunatly flow usually = loud

it's a noticable difference, an open downpipe is definately quieter than an open header, that's for sure

I think its a pretty big difference. when i first when turbo, i actually had the turbo on before i got an exhaust. then i got one, and it was really quiet. then when i took the turbo off to smog the car, everyone said my car was noticeable louder, it sounded gross too.

go to Gudeh23a'a profile, go to his homepage and check out the vids of his car, he has an N1, to be honest i really like the way it sounds, i am gonna get a skunk 2 though, they sound similar and are the same price, i just like the way the skunk 2 looks better myself
thats why Dynomax sells "Super Turbo" Mufflers...a muffler is supposed to be quite...so they call it "Super Turbo"...for anyone that doesnt believe me, i read it directly out of their Walker/Dynomax's commercial catologe at work.
hey i remember this thread, well i ened up going with Kteller 's ex oval with 3 inch from test pipe back, ill let you guys know what i think, , haha "Super Turbo"

Yeah Turbo's quiet it down a lot. I haven't done anything with Turbo in Honda's but I have a friend that has a WRX with a strait pipe and it isn't too loud at all. Also another friend had a Turbo Legacy and ran strait pipe from the cat back and it was pretty quiet.
look at the difference between mine and my brother's. We went up onto campus and parked in a deck. He tried to set off some car alarms but couldn't... the turbo was blocking the airflow. Now mine, which is NA with an N1 set off a couple without even trying.
As a comparison, on my 3rd gen I had a 2-1/4" cheap exhaust with a cat and really crappy muffler. It was loud as hell. When I went turbo I bumped up to a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, no cat, no muffler and one large resonator. It was quieter than my N/A exhaust.
