Is there an easy way to tell the year of a CRX by looking at it.. or at least if it is 1st or 2nd gen?

 

heh well the difference between first and second gen is like night and day. just look at a pic of each and you'll see what i mean. as far as the year of second gen, if there are bolt holes on the corner lenses, then its an 88-89, and if the bolts are hidden, then its a 90-91.

 

2nd gen has a glass window in the hatch, 2 gen 90-91 has no bolts in the corner lenses, 88-89 has 2 bolts in the corner lens. A 1st gen, 86-87 has regular looking headlights, a 84-85 has tucked away headlights. Ryan

Well that shows how little I know, I thought they all had the rear hatch window.. Back out to the web I go looking for pics to compare

 

 

also 88-89 have different bumpers then the 90-91 I believe and the ducts on the 90-91 are closed and they are open on the 88-89, theres a more obvious difference in the bumpers once you know what to look for

 

Is it just '88 or '88-89 with the square instrument panel.....I know the '90-'91 has a round instrument panel.

Actually the 88-89 bumpers didnt even have ducts, but you are right, the 90-91 ducts are just there for looks, they arent open (cept if you but them like i did). Also, the 88-89 bumper lights stock are all amber, the 90-91 is clear but has an amber insert inside it. 88-89 rear tail lights dont have a border arounf them, the 90-91's do. Umm lets see what else... the stock wheels are different... 90-91 had door mounted seatbelts

 

also you can tell the 88 -89 different from the 90-91 the black plastic pc on the doors are differnt

 

tail lights are different too...90-91 has a black rign arount them and the 88-89 are lighter in color.....also the 88 has a thinner piece of plastic along the window since it is the only one that has seatbelts that arent connected to the door

 

88-89 CRX Si =no rear discs, 90-91= rear discs

you're a genious bee guy so I feel like a jackass contradicting you but I have an 88 CRX and it has open ducts on it, thats where my mounted my fogs, actually I guess they aren't really 'ducts' but there square holes where the cosmetic ducts are on the 90-91, I guess thats why you said there where no ducts

Wow you have ducts there? i never even seen them on 88-89's... You sure it's the right bumpers? or did the previous owner replace them with 90-91's? I coulda sworn it was just like, flat plastic. Do you have a pic? im like super curious lol

Might have been mentioned but corner lights are what I usually look at, 88-89 have two visible exterior screws, 90-91 don't.

 

Lets see how I do from memory:

84:
recessed headlights
Hf has small plastic spoiler on top of hatch
no Si
all vinyl door panels

85:
recessed headlights
Hf still has spoiler
Si has black foam spoiler on top of hatch and rear wiper, sunroof
corner lights sort of pink in color
all vinyl door panels

86:
flush headlights
Hf still has spoiler
Si spoiler now on back of hatch and color matched, still has rear wiper, sunroof
amber corner lights
vinyl and fabric door panels

87: same as 86

88:
start of 2nd gen
Hf no projections around headrests, no cargo cover, no wiper
Dx has projections around headrests
Si has projections and hole in middle of headrests, rear drums, sunroof
amber bumper lights
two screw corner lights
no vents in bumper
narrow b pillar (pillar seat belts)
square cluster

89:
Hf no projections around headrests, no cargo cover, no wiper, narrow b pillar
Dx has projections around headrests
Si has projections and hole in middle of headrests, rear drums, sunroof
amber bumper lights
two screw corner lights
no vents in bumper
wide b pillar (door seat belts, dx, si)

90:

I can't believe you posted such a retarded statement. My 88 SI has seatbelts in the car and not the doors.
