Depends, are you staying N/A or going forced induction?

I am also looking into a cam and gear. I have decided on the STR cam gear due to price and the fact that it has a 5 bolt design.

Just cant decide between 2 cams, Zex 59300/105300 or the Crower 63441. The Zex has a higher lift than the Crower but the Crower has a longer duration. Both are good for FI applications and neither need valve springs if the stock rev limit has not been touched.

I just want to know which is better for what. I am leaning toward the Zex but still open for opinions :D

If you want to go all out look at the Crower stage 3 cam, http://www.crower.com/cgi-bin/...63443 but that needs a lot of work along with it.

The other reason I am looking at these 2 cams is because they are cheaper than the other cams out there.

I ran the Zex cam you listed on my last D16 and it was well worth the $. It gave vtec a bark, pulled quite a bit higher.. actually the top end was opened up significantly. I also ran a 50 shot regularly and a 75 shot at the track. If you do decide to go nitrous, I can say that my motor already had 60k+ miles and ran it on bottle pretty regularly upto about 96k with no big problems until the rings FINALLY started to pass at high RPM. Even N/A on this cam you will be impressed. The valves will chatter enough to hear, no biggie and your idle will be fine. Good Luck

an AEM cam gear is a good choice for gears.
Cams.. of course I'll recommend our Exospeed SOHC VTEC cams. hehe

<--- SOHC fiend here.. let me know if you have any other questions.

For all those using the Zex cam, do you have the valve springs? I am not going to raise the rev limit and just wondering if my stock springs will hold up.

Thanks for the reply, I believe that you drive your car pretty hard since you had a 50 shot so i think things should be ok for me

JdMCiviCCupE
People have also told me that a cam would not add much power but i think if it adds 5 hp it is still half the price of a catback exhaust. Just be sceptical of the numbers they give you on their web site. Dont expect that much, I think I will get it because it leaves my options open for FI.

Most camshafts available do not require upgraded valvetrain IF you stick with the stock rev limiter. Once you start taking it past the stock Redline, is when a valvetrain is needed for the SOHC VTEC cams.
From our testing, the SOHC VTEC cams dont let you get too wild of a lift on them anyway for optimum street/strip performance. The best street/daily driven cams have lifts that the stock valvetrain can support.

Got a question, if I use a 88-90Si D-series cam in a D15 will I need to change out the valve springs to support the new lift and duration????

the 88-91 crx/sivic si cam is a decent upgrade for the 1.5 and u can use your stock springs. the 1.5 head and the 88-91 si head are the same by the way.

How in the world do you consider that an upgrade? NonVtec to NonVtec NO lobe/duration diff.

dude, S2 is still in R&D for the SOHC crew. Yeah, It's gonna be the **** but, none of the specs have been released yet. I have been waiting for their **** since MARCH OF 02' and it was supposed to be released March of 03'. I've been in touch with Skunk on a daily baisis, keep standing by to stand by. Love the guys, and I am glad they are waiting to get it perfected before dumping it on us. Just make sure you are ready for what they deliver. Upgrade your head or go Crower if you can't.
